I thought I was pretty “in touch” with most things sci-fi on television. Even though I didn’t watch Stargate: SG-1 or its spin off, Stargate: Atlantis, I knew the shows existed and was well aware when the first one was cancelled by sci-fi. I didn’t realize there was also an animated series taking place in the Stargate world - Stargate: Infinity.

The short lived cartoon is on DVD courtesy of Shout! Factory, who has released all 26 episodes in one set: Stargate: Infinity – The Complete Series. From the series description, it doesn’t look like it shares much with its live action counterparts, really advancing human interaction with other races and technology:

A generation after the SGC first stepped through the alien device known as the Stargate, the universe has become a much different place. The war with the evil parasitic Goa’uld is won. The once top-secret Stargate Command and its work have been declassified, and beings from other worlds are living and working among us. But now there’s a new threat from a warrior race known as the Tlak’kahn, and when SGC veteran Major Gus Bonner is convicted of a war crime he didn’t commit, he must lead a group of young SGC cadets through the Stargate to protect the life of an Ancient from their hostile new enemies. Along the way, the team visits unknown worlds and cultures, learning that life—no matter where you are in the universe – may never be easy, but should always be cherished.

The DVD set hit stores last week, so true fanatics probably already knew of its existence, but if you’re like me and curious as to what it’s all about, you may want to check it out. The DVD set includes all 26 episodes of the series as well as animated effects tests, character models, and original concept art.
