Time Warp With Will Ferrell In Land Of The LostAuthor: Perri Nemiroff

The original Land of the Lost series is a little beyond my years, but the 1991 remake aired just in time to wedge itself into my childhood. Just as the 1991 show remade the original 1974 series, so does the big-budget 2009 Will Ferrell film. The big difference is, one was much more successful than the other.
Dr. Rick Marshall (Ferrell) has hit an all-time low. He’s been completely discredited for his belief in time travel and can only find work giving lectures to elementary school students at a museum. After meeting Holly Cantrell (Anna Friel), he completes his time-travel device and takes himself, Holly, and a fireworks salesmen named Will (Danny McBride) to a place inhabited by dinosaurs, Pakuni, and Sleestacks. The movie had a dismal run in theaters, but it’s back for another round on the DVD market. On October 13th you can buy Land of the Lost on DVD for $29.98 or on Blu-ray for $39.98. Both versions come with deleted scenes with commentary by director Brad Silberling, “Devil’s Canyon Gift Shop Commercial and Tour,” feature commentary with Silberling, and “A Day in the Life of a Big-Time Movie Star.” Exclusive to the BD version are an additional 12 extra minutes of deleted scenes, “Dr. Marshall’s Food Diaries” with commentary by Silberling, a making-of featurette called “This is Not a Routine Expedition,” “Brad, Sid and Marty: A Conversation with the Kroffts,” and access to BD-Live. The BD bonuses sound decent, but the only item that’d make the extra $10 worth spending is the throwback to the old series in “A Conversation with the Kroffts.” Ultimately, I’d skip the movie altogether and pick up the original series on DVD. It even comes in a cool retro lunchbox. |
