People wonder sometimes how some of our writers can instantly hate the idea of a sequel or remake. For those people I offer this: Ace Ventura Jr.. Somehow, the studio managed to take an idea that wasn’t all that great to begin with, and found a way to make it worse. No Jim Carrey, just his first big character’s son, played by Josh Flitter, who annoyed most people in License to Wed and Nancy Drew last year.
Of course, something like Ace Ventura Jr. could only be direct to DVD, and if you watch the trailer you’ll see why. This really is nothing more than an attempt to cash in on the basic character created by Carrey by putting the same hair, characteristics, and actions in the hands of a younger kid. Note to Flitter - just because Carrey managed to turn his career around into a dramatic success after Ace Ventura doesn’t mean you’ll be able to. Choose your roles a little more cautiously.
