There's a strange appeal to stories about unlikeable people, whether they struggle to redeem themselves or collapse into a pile of self-imposed tragedy. Taking a break from fighting animated museum exhibits, Ben Stiller recently embraced this narrative tradition by starring as Roger Greenberg, Asshole.
The latest film from writer/director Noah Baumbach, Greenberg finds its title character in the aftermath of a nervous breakdown, facing middle-age with neither grace nor enthusiasm. Greenberg moves from New York to L.A. to housesit for his brother, and in the process stumbles into an awkward romance with his brother's assistant, Florence (Greta Gerwig). Before things are through, I'm betting he learns something about himself. Greenberg hits Blu-ray and DVD July 13th. From the look of the specs, both versions are pretty much equal on the special-features front, so only splurge for the Blu-ray if you're one of the people who actually uses the BD-Live/pocket BLU/social BLU stuff. Otherwise either version will net you access to three featurettes:
