Charlie Wilson Isn't Conquering DVD With This Release image
Charlie Wilson’s War looked like a fascinating picture when the trailers first hit. In a year that was overstuffed with war themed pictures, the movie was taking a more comedic approach to a very serious subject. The result was a picture that got a little more attention in a market where war themed movies were being overlooked, including a nomination for Philip Seymour Hoffman’s acting.

The movie comes to DVD on April 22nd, but the release looks decidedly underwhelming. Aside from the movie, the press release is only advertising two bonus features. The first looks at the making of the movie, the second is a look at the real Charlie Wilson. There’s no commentary track, despite the involvement of talented folks like Aaron Sorkin, Mike Nichols, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. From the information we’ve gotten, I can’t even tell if the trailers that made me want to see the movie are included.

On top of all of that, the DVD packaging is incredibly bland. Admittedly, the posters for the movie weren’t exactly works of art, but they looked better than the three-stripe approach to showing the main characters used here.
