How About A Three Hour New World? image
I steered clear of Terrence Malik’s The New World while it was in theaters. As much as I enjoy American history, I really never convinced myself that I was ready to sit down for a two-hour history lesson that was bound to be filled with inaccuracies. It turns out, that two-hour cut may have been a boon compared to what Warner Brothers is about to do with the film.

Answering the complaint about the movie being too long and containing a slow pacing with a giant middle finger, Warner Brothers is planning on releasing an extended director’s cut that will clock in at almost three hours in length.

The new DVD will be released on October 14th and will also contain a ten-part documentary titled “Making the New World,” which looks at the making of the epic film. And yes, I listed that right above. The press release has no mention of a Blu-ray release planned, keeping this a DVD affair only.

I can’t imagine there are tons of people out there clamoring for this, making this a DVD with limited appeal. Those typically aren’t the releases you expect to see from a studio like Warner Brothers. Who knows, though. By the time this DVD release hits, maybe I’ll feel bold enough to take on Malik’s overzealous epic myself.
