With Oscar season fast approaching, you better start putting together a movie-watching schedule to be sure you get in all of the necessities. Bust out the calendar, because I have one for you to pencil in. On January 12th, 2010, Summit Entertainment will release Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker on DVD and Blu-ray.
Staff Sergeant William James (Jeremy Renner) is the new leader of an Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit in Iraq. He’s teamed up with Sergeant J.T. Sanborn (Anthony Mackie) and Specialist Owen Eldridge (Brian Geraghty), whose duty is to cover him while he approaches and deactivates bombs in his bombsuit. Their high-pressure missions require the utmost care and complete trust in one another. When James’ carefree methods clash with Sanborns’ high regard for military protocol, they’re forced to find a middle ground to ensure they survive the last 38 days of their tour.
The Hurt Locker will be the most suspenseful film you see all year. When disarming an IED (Improvised Explosive Devices) there’s no room for mistakes. Forget wearing the heavy-duty bombsuit in the blistering Iraq heat, you’ll be sweating just watching the movie in the comfort of your own home.
The DVD and BD is light on the bonus material, but this movie can stand on its own. With just a behind-the-scenes featurette and an image gallery, The Hurt Locker is still well worth your $26.99 for the DVD or $34.99 for the BD.
