Rear Window: Collector's Edition

Rear Window: Collector's Edition

The Movie: star rating

Never to be surpassed, never to be repeated, Hitchcock was a master of suspense, and THE master of film.

This month we've seen the release of one of his greatest films on DVD, Rear Window: Collector's Edition. Even at a price around 25-30 dollars its well worth the cash. Not only is the film beautifully restored and utterly crystal clear, but even the sound has sounds brighter, deeper, and more real than ever before. Each and every nuance of Hitchcock's masterpiece is at your fingertips, each an every shadow perfectly rendered, every scream, every grimace, every soft caress... better than ever. Hitchcock would have approved.

But in addition to the film itself, Rear Window: Collector's edition is filled with a host of wondrous features, enough to slate the appetite of even the most rabid fan. Of special interest to the Hobbit, was an interview with Jimmy Stuart, decades after making the film. Also included are documentaries about the film, production stills, movie posters, the original trailer, and the re-release trailer presented by Jimmy Stuart himself.

Its nice to see that in a world of high tech big marketing and gizmotastic films, a landmark classic like Rear Window can still get the royal treatment. Hitchcock fan or not, this is a DVD for every movie lover's collection.
