Best Of 2008 So Far, According To Rafe

By Rafe Teslch: 2008-01-05 02:01:07

This is the best of 2008 according to me, and this is my disclaimer to go with it:

It's highly likely that my list will be bottom heavy, as a lot of the movies I review over the course of the year are the ones that don't have critic screenings or other critics don't want to cover (part of the joy of being the Assistant Editor is I get to Assist by covering whatever nobody else wants to see - lucky me). It also is likely to contain a lot of blockbusters, since that's what I like to see over the summer. I live in a smaller city, so a lot of the Oscar fare doesn't make it to my area until they actually get nominated, at which point the year is over and this list is done.

This is not a definitive list. The order is not fixed. Don't hold me to it, it may well change drastically by the end of the year. This is also not a list only of good movies. It's just an ordered list of everything I've seen (and remembered to put on this list)... of the movies being released in 2008. By released in 2008, I mean that it must be first released in a theater somewhere in the United States at some point during the course of the year in order to end up here. No, film festivals do not count. Yes, limited release dates do. The movies I've liked best are at the top, the ones that suck most are at the bottom. I really hope you didn't need me to tell you that.
