Weekly Blend Audio Show: April 1st, 2007
Is Margaret's hostility this week towards Tim taking her place on last week's show legitimate or just part of an elaborate April Fools gag? We'll never tell. That's the closest we might get to an April Fool's joke though as we discuss serious casting news, respond to some listener comments, bomb out "Lost" for one of the worst episodes yet, and admit a new obsession: "American Idol." Seriously America - Sanjaya?

When is it okay to remake an icon? That's one of the subjects we debate today as guest host Tim Kennard and I shower TMNT with praise while chastising Kurt Russell's recent comments about the idea of remaking Escape from New York. Also: quick reviews of 4 out of this week's 6 new releases, Transformers casting news, and a return to the debate about making a movie for the fans vs. making it for a general audience.

Special Edition: Adam Rifkin Interviewed
The Weekly Blend gets a chance to chat with Adam Rifkin, director of Detroit Rock City and writer behind Small Soldiers, and this year's Underdog. He speaks about his new film Homo Erectus, a comedy starring Rifkin himself leading a cast that includes Ron Jeremy, David Carradine, Talia Shire, and Ali Larter. Rifkin talks with us about making a film starring himself, the influences behind his film, and just how he got his hands on that diverse cast, as well as sharing a little bit of information on his next film Look. Click here to check out more about Homo Erectus, including the trailers and video Rifkin talks about in the interview.

Margaret's ill this week which means a distinct lack of focus on her part -moreso than usual. Now that Rafe's caught up on 300 the two take the opportunity to celebrate Gerard Butler as King Leonidas and the very real possibility of Butler taking over the role of Snake Plisskin - it's a celebration of all things Butler! Also: people are stupid for taking kids to the wrong movies

It's a Weekly Blend Audio Show first - Margaret saw a movie before Rafe! Yes, she's part of the $70 million worth of people who took the trip to see 300 this weekend and she shares her opinion on the movie. Also: information from Josh's SXSW reports, a clip from our upcoming interview with Adam Rifkin, and talk about "Heroes," "Lost," and the future of Indiana Jones and Disney animation.

It's amazing how our show comes together sometimes (or falls apart). Take this week for instance: here we had a planned show nicely tied together with the theme of space movies and Margaret steals the show mentioning something she caught in passing about one of our favorite directors. "Meh" is the word of the week as we follow up on the Oscars, hit on those space movies, and discuss the finer points of social and political commentary through zombie flicks.

Special Oscar Edition: Pre-Oscar Round Up
Here it is: our second annual Cinema Blend.com Weekly Blend Audio Show Pre-Oscar Round Up! Margaret and I are joined by some of our third seat regulars as we make our predictions for the 2007 Academy Awards. Who do we think will win? Who do we think will be this year's Three 6 Mafia? What does Matt Damon have to do with any of this? Listen to our educated predictions and random guesses and see how we fare on Oscar night. (Guests: Kristi Telsch and Tim Kennard)

Oscar fever is upon us and Ghost Rider is making a killing at the box office. Is it any wonder we're a little scattered this week, as we dive into the show with only a rudimentary script. We give our opinion of Ghost Rider, share our opinions on a few television shows (Margaret joins the "Lost" crowd while Rafe mourns the departure of a cast member from "Boston Legal") and we talk about recent news on sequels we actually care about.

Sequels have been in the news constantly for the past two weeks. Needless sequels, awkward sequels, sequels people don't bother doing homework on. It's enough to send us over the deep end and into some of the biggest rants we've ever had on the show. Do we have an agenda with this week's episode? Sure: Reading is fundamental, and so is listening to an entire episode before making accusations. Want to know more? Listen on!

The Oscar nominations were the big news this week... but we already covered those in last week's late show. We still have some news to talk about, though, including heralding the return of "Heroes," the loss of Katie Holmes from The Dark Knight, news from Sundance, another Wonder Woman casting rumor, and the return of another '80s franchise to the big screen... a franchise Margaret shows more familiarity with than Rafe.

Sorry for the delay in this week's episode. As mentioned before, the usual Sunday release was delayed on account of ice. Now that we've finally gotten to record this episode the major event of the week has occurred: Oscar nominations. We discuss the Oscar nods along with the Razzie nominations, the Golden Globe winners, and even find time to discuss some casting news and rumors in this week's show.

Does a studio have more to gain by ignoring a franchise fanbase or more to lose? That's the big question we tackle this week as we discuss the public feud between Peter Jackson and New Line cinema exec Bob Shaye and a recent interview with J.J. Abrams about Star Trek XI. Also in the news: rumored casting for The Dark Knight and the dueling Avatar projects.

It's our first show for 2007 with a return to movie news as usual. Rafe also makes his first prediction of 2007 and we talk about Kevin Smith's awareness of Cinema Blend (as evidenced in his year end myspace blog entry), the Screen Actors Guild award nominations, some real hope for Alien Vs. Predator 2, and the odd decisions being made regarding movie adaptations and the His Dark Materials trilogy.
