The Weekly Blend Audio Show: DragonCon Coverage 2005

By Rafe Telsch: 2005-09-03 00:00:00

The Weekly Blend Audio Show has moved out of its shark belly into a dragon. Rafe Telsch is in Atlanta at DragonCon 2005, a three day sci-fi/fantasy/goth/whatever-you-can-think-of convention. This year some of highlights of the convention stars include the cast of Serenity, Kevin Sorbo, Mercedes McNab, and Dean Stockwell. Check back each day as Rafe presents his highlights of DraconCon.

The Weekly Blend Audio Show Podcast

DragonCon Show #3: September 5th, 2005
Day #3: The last of the DragonCon updates from Atlanta! (we'll do a follow up show in the next week hitting everything we've missed thus far. I talk about theonering.net's King Kong presentation and its technical glitches, as well as the Masquerade Costume Contest. Finally, I pay tribute to the genius that is Luke Sky (www.lukeski.com) and editorialize about Convention complaining.

DragonCon Show #2: September 4th, 2005
Day #2: The second day of DragonCon brought news of two September 30th theatrical releases: Serenity and Mirrormask. I bring you what information we learned from panels on both of these, from the cast of Serenity and straight from the Jim Henson company. Also we can officially say DragonCon is more fun than having your car booted!

DragonCon Show #1: September 3rd, 2005
Day #1: Our trip down to DragonCon got off to a late start, but the results proved maybe Thursday night registrations are overrated. The con has already proven to be extremely busy this year, as we talk about in this first episode (we couldn't even get to see the Serenity cast. Joining us for this series of podcasts is CB Guest Correspondant, Mark Noble. (Sorry for the sound quality in this episode. We'll get it fixed for the rest of them).

Hey, there's more to DragonCon than just what Rafe says. Look at some of what he's seeing below as well:

Costumes
DragonCon is all about the fans and their costumes. Check out some of the weird, wild, and totally beyond style costumes fans have come up with this year:

Johnny Depp is extremely popular this year for some reason. And no, he hasn't played a woman yet, but just you wait!

Ash is available in regular or mini-size. Check out the bad guys behind the little guy, trembling in their boots at his little chainsaw and boom stick.

Some of the cast of "The Life Aquatic" needed a smoke.

I don't always question who they're dressed up as. Sometimes it's just best to take the picture.

A wookie towers above the convention-goers.

A pretty realistic Anakin Skywalker does battle with his future master.

Every man's fantasy come true.

Celebrities

The Crossed Swords are a DragonCon favorite: professional fight choreographers who put on a hell of a show. Repeat their mantra though: Don't try this at home (go to someone else's home to try it).

Lord of the Rings's Denethor (John Noble) poses with Weekly Blend guest correspondant (John) Mark Noble.
