HORRIBLE! It makes my head bleed!
First off, the announcers. They always talk down to the viewers, treat us all like morons, are completely repetetive and obvious and just don't seem like they know ANYTHING. They don't even seem like they took a journalism class at any point in their lives. How many times do you have to state the obvious? Then there's the annoying habit of saying "I thought/knew that. . ." "I could've told you. . ." Knock it off! You're not a know it all, which is obvious with the rest of your commentary, you're not impressing us by acting like one. They really just suck, flat out.
Then there's the coverage of the whole thing. They seem to spend more time on talking about boring personal stories about obscure athletes than stuff that's pertinent to what we're paying attention to. Some personal stories are good, but most of them are very, very lame. And they spend a LOT of time on them. Then there's just all the useless stories (30 minutes on security detail at the Olympics?) about the events that saturate the rest of the time. STOP! PLEASE! Who wants to watch gymnastics, only to see the gymnasts occasionally in the background while some lame sideline reporter goes of a spiel about how some Russian's mother got flowers in the mail yesterday and doesn't know who they're from.
And of course, there's the fact that, even if we want to, we can't watch the Olympics live. Tape delay, or even just highlights, are great if for some reason you couldn't see an event, but most of us want to watch the event WHEN IT HAPPENS! We weren't allowed to see the opening ceremonies live. We read about our basketball team losing and only get to watch it hours and hours later. It's horrible. It's the most cockamaney, pea-brained, horrific idea I've ever seen used on sporting events (and I wasn't alive for the Heidi game).
I love the Olympics, but boy does NBC's coverage sour the whole thing.
GIVE THEM TO ESPN!!!
