Tolstoy isn’t exactly traditional fare for Hollywood. Nor is the film “Ivans xtc” – although exposés of Hollywood dirt certainly aren’t without precedence. The film is based on Tolstoy’s “The Death of Ivan Ilyich,” by British director Bernard Rose, and describes the world of the Hollywood agent.

Having fallen from Hollywood grace himself, Rose pulls no punches with the story, which is told in a manner that just might lead one to suspect he’ll ”never work in this town again,” as the saying goes. Being filmed on DV, with a mere $150,000 budget, it had no need for a big studio. Thus, priceless freedom.
