i'm still trying to get through the second HP book (yes i'm hanging my head in shame). the first book i read before the film so i decided to do the opposite with the second book. but now i'm finding that i'm not nearly as motivated to finish it :(. think i'll definitely try to get through the books first for the rest of them.

Goblet of Fire's the best so far I reckon. Doesn't get overly bogged down in the kiddy angle that weighs down the other books quite as much. Even if the house-elf subplot goes absolutely nowhere.
