View Full Version : Matt's Good Readin' of the Month
Well...that's how I say it in Georgia. We all love classics and the many great books on the Official Hobbit Book list. With summer coming though, great movies are coming out. So why not enjoy some good books that don't require you to undestand Latin to decipher the names?
Here are my recommendations
1. Timeline by Michael Crichton- This book becomes a movie around Thanksgiving. This is an excellent book. I have given a great synopsis of the movie adaption in the HNN. You can read that here! (http://www.filmhobbit.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2030) Crichton also wrote Jurassic Park. and that leads to...
2. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton- Have you just seen the movie? Great huh? The book is MUCH BETTER. Grab the damn thing and read it how it really was intended!!!

timeline was okay. it started out well but just seemed to fizzle out by the end. i hope the movie does better, but the trailer does not look promising IMO. not a bad summer read though.
i'd definitely recommend Jurassic Park first and foremost ahead of Timeline. Better story, better science, and better ending.
this is a good idea Matt. i'll have to try to think of some summer reads to recommend as well.
Yeah, JP is a better book by far. I just recommended Timeline first since the movie is coming out soon. JP is a wonderful read

The problem with Timeline is that it had all these intresting ideas (Time Travel Slowly killing you for example) and did absolutly nothing with them.
Prey was a much better book.
Also check out The Lost World after you read Jurassic Park just to see how much they screwed up the JP sequel. Lost World is by no means a perfect book, but it has some really just mind blowingly cool moments that were lost in the movie. It is MUCH better than the movie even if both are flawed.

I'm sorry Lost World Lost me the second it turned out that Ian Malcom "Got Better"
The only great thing about The Lost World is the killer scene running through tall grass pursued by Raptors. That's just an eye popper. Totally cool.
The worst is the Godzilla style rampage through the city. God that sucked. Oh and the stupid kids who were the for no other reason than that people are stupid and always care about things more if they have kids in it... because obviously adult lives don't really matter.
Personally, I care less if kids are involved, but that's because I'm heartless.

Wow, mega thread bump there, Tay.
I started reading JP years and years ago, but didn't get much into it.
I liked Sphere when I first read it, now I have little interest to read it again.
