View Full Version : Best Rock Band Nominations
Since the current tourney is ending... I thought we would select nominations for best Rock Band Ever. Okay what defines a band. Well, let's make it simple. More than one person. Rolling Stones, Yes. Mick Jagger, No. Again. The Beatles, Yes. John Lennon, no.
ALSO, I have noticed that I can set up the polls to "time out" after a certain amount of time. So, to make things more streamlined, I'm gonna start timing out polls after 5 days. I'm pretty busy this time of year, but I'll try to remember to start the next round quicker. So, if it has been 2 days after the previous round closed, PM me and remind my old arse. lol
Proceed but ADHERE TO DA RULES.
List your personal top 3 nominations in order of fav to 3rd favorite.
I only do tourneys of 16 or 32. So, you might get all your nominations in if or ya might not. But I'll definitely try to include at least one of everybody. Next, don't be a dummy and nominate somebody that another person has nominated. It shows you don't read my posts. ahem.. hobbit. dang skimmer. :lol
proceed

1. Ben Folds Five
Heart-felt pianos caress songs about heartbreak, heartmend, and people in confusion. And I love the song Brick. Like none other.
2. Nerf Herder
Vivian, put your glasses on. Well she's gone away to med school, and I've gone out of my mind. Geek rock at its geekiest - songs about starting a New Wave band, because it worked for Flock of Seagulls, and hey, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer theme music. Plus, I'm the only person who would nominate them.
3. Barenaked Ladies
Hobbit, I'm stealing your nomination. Cuz I love them so good. I've been a diehard BNL fan since...well, since Stunt was released, but I usually come in late on bands, but then become very much the zealot.
(can we have a poll for artists later so I can nominate Stuart Davis and David Bowie?)

1. Pixies
2. Bad Brains
3. Radiohead
Lot of good ones taken already.
Wanted to say Band of Gypsys. That was Hendrix's last band before he died.
I think they played at Woodstock. Great cd. Much better musicianship than the Experience IMHO.
Just wasn't sure if they met the band criteria because I'm not sure if that was the final band name or if they had many live gigs. I also can't find the case to check on this.

check the internet ;)
In the summer of '69, Hendrix played Woodstock with an informal ensemble called the Electric Sky Church, in a performance highlighted by another career-defining moment: a startling, renegade rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner." Hendrix subsequently formed the Band of Gypsies, with old army friend Billy Cox on bass and Buddy Miles (Electric Flag) on drums. The band's New Year's Eve concert at the Fillmore East in New York City provided them with material for their first album, Band of Gypsies (a second album, titled Band of Gypsies 2, was discovered and released in 1986). Hendrix brought Mitch Mitchell back into the fold in mid-1970 to begin work on a new double album Jimi had tentatively titled First Rays of the New Rising Sun. Several tracks were recorded for the project, but the sessions were sandwiched between tour dates, and, sadly, the album was left unfinished when Hendrix died September 18, 1970.

Hmm, I have to follow the rules? dern it. Okies. Add Styx then in place of Billy.
Im sticking with the Stones as the official nomination since it was only posted on Bordick's huge list which was replaced by his later post. :D
