Nononononoonoooo, people, people, PEOPLE!
I love Jane's Addiction. It was a fantastic band. But, as they admit themselves, they broke up (over things they now agree were just petty ego stuff) way, way too soon. They COULD have been one of the absolute biggest bands EVER, they agree on -- but they know they weren't. They had a fantastic potential, but never managed to follow through on it. And I agree. They could have been bigger than Nirvana. They COULD have been one of the biggest, ever. But they weren't -- and that's in their own words.
Jimmy Hendrix also ended his career way, way too soon (he OD'd). But even if he did, the impact he had, truly was one of the absolute biggest things in rock history, ever.
Mozart died early, and as a result, he kinda ranks behind Bach and Beethoven -- had he lived, I'm sure he'd have outdone them. He didn't. But even so, his work is still utterly monumental.
So too, with Hendrix.
Eric Clapton is recognized as one of the most skilled guitarist in the business -- but he said, when he saw Jimmy Hendrix for the first time, he wanted to go home and burn his guitar. That was how good Hendrix was. He was the best rock guitarist, ever.
I got a few Janes Addiction songs around, fer sure. But I got a helluva lot more Hendrix. And as times roll on, Janes Addiction may be forgotten (although I don't hope they will be) -- but you can remain absolutely certain that Hendrix never, ever will, as long as there is rock and roll.
I mean, personal taste is one thing, but this is different. I used to play a lot of guitar, and I can can tell... Hendrix rules. And that ain't just cos I'm an old fart :)
Hendrix uber alles.
Jimi Hendrix ! It shouldn't even be close!

Props to Jane's Addiction, but pfffft! please!
Jimi is the man!
Jane's Addiction was cool, but really, what did they ever do that was THAT great?
I mean how many Jane's songs can you name? How many changed the FACE of music like Jimmy?
Silly. No contest. Hendrix.

#1 Jimi got in on a technicality. he is NOT a group. the group of hendrix experience was just a silly vehicle for him to present his stuff.
next you'll be saying 'wings' was really a band, not just Paul's back up band.
#2 Janes addiction is back together! they are touring this summer. Seattle is all abuzz (and so am I)

Valk, I got backstage passes to Carson Daly's show that they played like 2 months ago. It was sick.
I love Jane's Addiction and all, but Hendrix defintely takes it..it shouldn't even be a question really.:)
