Actors you got love for, but don't get many good movies...
Micheal Madsen: Hasn't Really done anything great outside of Tarintino.
Kyle MacLachlan: Hasn't really done anything great outside of Lynch.
Come now, Michael Madsen was in Free Willy 3!

James Spader, was an outsider never part of "The Brat Pack", but was in alot of "Brat Pack" Movies. Dabbled in indies, had one huge commercial success in Stargate (huge compared to everything else). Never gets the proper respect.

No, but he got to ride Maggie Gyllenhall in Secretary... so that makes up for it. :)

that makes up for nothing, but he did break in a young newcomer in 2 Days in the Valley, Charlize Theron. He was the first to hit that shit....yet....no respect
Spader is very under used..I've always wanted to see him get better roles.

Gary Oldman.
Not sure if Oldman is really underused. He seems to pop up everywhere when you least expect it.

Look I'm a huge Gary Oldman fan, If the man put out a breakfast cereal I'd buy it, If their was an "ALL OLDMAN ALL THE TIME!!" station I'd watch it, but the man gets all kind of good roles.
If you look at the rest of the actors posted, they've got like maybe 3 good films on their filmographies...
Oldman's got:
Hannibal
The Contender
The Fifth Element
Air Force One
The Proffesional
True Romance
Dracula
JFK
Henry and June
Sid and Nancy
The Man gets used

The amount of roles that require Gary Oldman to wear wigs, heavy make-up or prosthetic get ups you'd think the guy would develop a complex, lol.

I suppose he's more underrated than underused.
And Billy Connolly .. I've only seen him in The Boondock Saints, but he was great in it. He's got a couple of roles this year, in Richard Donner's Timeline and in Edward Zwick's The Last Samurai .. I look forward to seeing him in them.

Patrick Stewart, outside of Star Trek or X-Men
Jennifer Connelly- whenever she shows up, she's quite good, but sometimes it's in "eh" movies.
Steve Buscemi- nearly always has the best lines in every film he's in.
Sigourney Weaver- she rocks when she wants to

I guess he could do more and be brilliant. But he is so busy with X-Men and Trek and things like that... that frankly I'd rather have him doing that than anything else. Stay the course Patrick!!! :)

Eh movies? I can't think of all that many movies she's been in that were "eh". In fact I'd say she has more than her fair share of fantastic stuff. Hell, most actresses would be lucky just to have Dark City or even Beautiful Mind.

But I don't know if you can say he's underutilized. He does like 6 films a year!

And then I learned that Stewart played a gay orchestra conductor on Frasier who was trying to hit on Fraiser, and failing. From what I heard, it was quite funny. Still, he's amazingly talented and Star Trek is basically done for, and all he's got left is X-Men, and there won't be another one of those for a few years.

Now take Dark City, Requiem for a Dream, and A Beautiful Mind, and realize how much space is in between them (and realize that Requiem was a indie film). Hulk sucked, even though I can't say anything bad about Connelly in it.
But I don't know if you can say he's underutilized. He does like 6 films a year!
And how many of them never see the mainstream? He's got so much talent, and he gets stuck in half of his films as a 2 bit character who gets a few good lines....and that's it. He could just do SO much more.
Great at making me want to vomit.
Why? Brilliant in the first two Alien movies, and the next two weren't her fault that they sucked. Ghostbusters she was good in, and I've heard good things about The Ice Storm, and The Guys.

I hate Sigourney Weaver with every fiber of my being.
But I love Steve Buscemi. Personally... I don't think he should do big leading roles. I think he is a GOD at doing those weird/insane supporting roles, the little quirky characters. I really don't want him to stop doing that. He's better as the weird background filler that bumps around in the cracks of a movie. I love him there and just can't see him as a lead in any movie.
Behold the greatness of Jennifer Connelly in Chronological Order:
Labyrinth
The Rocketeer
Inventing the Abbotts
Dark City
Requiem For A Dream
Pollock
A Beautiful Mind
Between Dark City and Requiem there is a two year gap. Then in a two year span she did Requiem, Pollock, and Beautiful Mind.
Then she started popping out kids... right?
So she really couldn't have done more.

You forgot Leone's Masterpiece "Once Upon a Time in America" I'm not sure if its before or after Labryinith but its ****ing tremendous film and she manages to give a great performance despite being only 14.

Jason Lee, he needs better roles outside Veiw Askewniverse. Other than the 2 Cameron Crowe flicks he was in, the rest have been shit.

Tim Roth. I have a tiny little obessive disorder over this guy.
I've read that the reason he hasn't worked much since his early success in Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and the one he was nominated for...with Jessica Lange and Liam Neeson...kilts, can't recall the name at all right now...
Anyway the reason they say he doesn't work is because he's a raging alcoholic who's well on his way to drinking himself to death. Such a sad thing.
I find him extremely compelling. Did anyone ever see the film he directed? It never came around here...not even on video and I'd love to see it.
Another person I'd love to see more of is Clive Owen. I know he has a new one coming out with Angelina Jolie called Beyond Borders but isn't it his first film since Gosford Park...like two or three years ago? The guy is magnetic and I want my Clive!
An older actor that I love to watch is Donald Sutherland. I love his voice and eyes and just the way he has this stillness about him but uses his eyes to express so much. Haven't seen him much lately.
For the life of me I can't think of any younger actresses that I'd like to see more of... the ones I like all work pretty regularly.
Parker Posey, Kirsten Dunst, Clea Duvall, Amanda Peete, oh, I just thought of a girl I like that seems to never work Patricia Arquette. I love her. She's so beautiful and I think she's a terrific actress. Anyone who can conviningly take a brutal beating like she did in True Romance is alright with me. I just watched "Holes" with my daughters and Patrica is in that. Love her.
Older actresses that I'd like to see....hmmm...
Jessica Lange, Diane Weist, Laura Dern (she's awesome!!), Piper Laurie, Anne Bancroft, and Holly Hunter all come to mind. Holly works about as much as Frances McDormand and they're two women I'd like to see all the time. They rock.
I always think Jessica Lange is dead.

Rob Roy.
I love Tim Roth, would love to see him more, drunk or otherwise.

If you were in the remake of Planet of the Apes wouldn't you drink too?
No. Because that movie isn't bad.
It just gets knee jerk reaction.

The movie itself isn't that bad... until the last 5 minutes. At that point it just goes out the window to WTFville.

Bad Movie Great Visuals, Great Roth.
Which is Miles better then Mars Attacks which manages to be completely unfun despite the fact that you are watching aliens dismember celebrities.

Oh come on! I love Mars Attacks!

I hate Mars Attacks. Its the only film where I feel Burton isn't loving what he's doing, I at least got that in Planet of the Apes.
Plus its boring, and lets face it as cool as it is to watch a Martian Kill a celebrity or watch a Martians head explode it gets pretty ****ing repetive after 2 1/2 hours.

So.... Burton's homage/parody to old sci-fi/alien invasion flicks gets a no go from Evil Dead, but QT's homage to 70s kung fu movies is great... and they run about dead even as far as plot and character development go.
Evil Dead Junkie
10-16-2003, 12:49 PM
Yep. The facts are simple. I enjoy and watch 70's kungfu all the time. I've hardly ever seen 50's scifi except on MST3K
