Well that would be horrific... but great :)

Find it hard to believe though. These movies are all about catering to kids... and that will NOT play well with kids. Hell, I wouldn't even take my kid to see that.

I've always bit my tounge on this subject because I never thought Lucas had the balls to do it.

But really for me it has to be Vader who does the deed. If Dooku or someone did it and it was Anakin's anger which brought him to Vader it would have been a copout.

Destroying what you love HAS to be the final destruction.

I agree with Junkie. That would be the ultimate catalyst for his change. It would be horrific, but it is neccesary.

It would also cement the evilness of Darth Vader. If they let Padme die by somebody else and Anakin gets mad because of that, you almost make Darth Vader a sympathetic character. But having him kill his wife and mother of his children is super evil.

I totally agree with you guys that NO DOUBT this is the way to go...

but I cannot believe that Lucas will do it. I just can't. At every turn he has copped out.

In AOTC he had a great opportunity to show how screwed up Anakin was becoming... but instead of showing his brutality towards the sandpeople, it is just mentioned as an aside. Could have been MUCH MORE powerful if we'd seen some of it.

Both of the prequels so far have been toned down and made kid friendly. Even Anakin having his arm chopped of was filmed in such a way that it didn't seem too gruesome... not nearly as gruesome and scary as when Luke had his HAND cut off in a much more powerful and disturbing scene.

The prequels have made a point to shy away from disturbing and adult subject matter like that, I'll be shocked (pleased too) if he does this. He's set Anakin up as a hero for kids, and he'll have to throw in a cop out.

I've read where Lucas has filmed certain scenes with multiple endings and such.

One has padme dying by Anakin.
One has Anakin thinking padme dies but she flees with leia and dies sometime between Episode III and IV.

I do agree with hobbit though... Lucas has the tendency to try to water it down as to keep it kid friendly.

I really hope Anakin doesn't kill Padme. How are you supposed to be convinced he can be redeemed in the OT when he's murdered the love of his life? I don't buy it. Seems pretty lame to me.

Why would he need to be redeemed unless he'd gone and become COMPLETELY EVIL Kurtz??

Vader is supposed to be the most ruthless, evil being on the planet. He tries to kill his own son! The point of ROTJ is that Luke finds good even in the most evil of poeple... that for even the worst sinner there CAN be redemption.
