On one hand... I think this is great news. I think it's great that someone with this much passion and interest in movies gets the opportunity to put his money where his mouth is. Quite frankly, he's just a more audible Quentin Tarantino, he's known by movie geeks where Tarantino was just a movie rental clerk.

On the other hand I can't think of a worse decision. While he has the interest and passion, nothing has ever shown that he has the ability. You can love and admire art all day, but at the end of the day either you have the skills or you don't. Watching how Harry writes on his site, he doesn't seem to understand the concept of Stream of Consciousness... or basic grammar at times for that matter.

On first take I think this is a horrid idea that will turn into a more horrid film, but MAN do I wish him luck and wish I had such an opportunity just handed to me like he has had.

He'll produce one movie, it will flop horribly, he'll learn his lesson and then try to go back to being a critic... only no one will listen.

I mean, seriously, GHOST TOWN? Gee, I wonder what wildly creative thing this movie will be about? Who thinks he'll cast Bruce Campbell? Raise your hands!

While I agree with Taln, I think that you can't really take him seriously as a critic once he has crossed over to the "other" side.

He will no longer REALLY be able to say anything bad about anyone. Not that he ever did. But if you want to work with people in Hollywood... which obviously he does, then you better shut your trap and have nothing but praise for everyone and everything.

Well... he was almost doing that anyway, now he'll have to do it in earnest.

Not that I wouldn't take it... just because of the money involved. I have no idea how much Harry Knowles makes, but I'm sure he's no millionaire. He probably does good to pull 100 grand. This could make him rich. I'd do it too.

While I agree with Taln, I think that you can't really take him seriously as a critic once he has crossed over to the "other" side. I think most people would argue that you haven't been able to take him seriously as a critic for years. He's too chummy chummy with too many people involved.

Very true. But any slight shred of credibility that he might have had left totally evaporated with this.

AICN will keep getting hits for news though, until Harry gets pressured into stop letting out the stories that his studio doesn't want out. They've lagged in that department the past few years too.

I have to say even though I dislike AICN they do have good scoops, and every once in awhile just to throw you off guard they go and write a good review.

I really hate this guy. I used to read AICN until he gave Godzilla a good review (This happened after the studio gave him a free trip and limo ride).

"That’s right, Harry Knowles, aka Bloated Sellout"

Proof positive that americans don't get irony!

Seriously though. I'm really physically sick of Harry and his name-dropping.

Is there a bigger hack studio than Revolution though? I don't think so. They were the guys that thought a series of PG-13 rated horror movies was a good idea. In fact their whole movie-producing manifesto seems to be based around that MPAA rating.

How often I’ve written about my dreams for projects only to see them fall by the wayside crushed by either a lack of passion or stupidity.

Harry? Stupidity?

Lets face it, when you boil all the crap out of his article, he's basically been asked to pitch an idea to Revolution, nothing much more. He's not writing, he's not directing, he's not putting any of his own money behind it.

This is gonna be the funniest turkey since Foghorn Leghorn...
