OK Dawn of the Dead is just behind Evil Dead II and Nightmare on Elm Street as my favorite horror film of all time. Even Moreso then TCM I think this one never should have been remade. I mean its perfect just how it is. The isolation, the fear the brutality the satire, the living becoming near zombies themselves. All just pitch perfect.

I like Ving Rhames.

The Zombies appear to be fast moving though, a la 28 Days Later.
Could make them more menacing ...

Looks very weak, given that we've had a lot of cool horror recently (28 Days Later, Cabin Fever, and TCM, for example). I'll most likely be skipping this.

I hate that the zombies move so fast. That was one of the cool things in the original. If you had a few zombies out in the middle of the mall, you were pretty safe to **** with them because they were like big slow idiots. That added a level of humor to the movie. They were slow and dumb, but if you were cornered by 15 or more, you were ****ed. Now it seems every zombie will be a real threat. While that may lead to a more "thrilling" zombie, it takes away a lot of potential for bringing about a level of fun with them.

Trailer makes it look exactly like everyone's said here. Some bizarre mutation which has taken the situations and premises of the original D.O.D and 28 Days Later and fused them together into some typical cheap and glossy Hollywood fare.

The highest accolade I see it achieving is competing with Resident Evil over which is better... not that it means much in the grander scale of horror movies.

When we saw Big Fish this morning the preview for Dawn of the Dead played. (That wasn't good because I had taken the kids to see Big Fish and we weren't expecting a scary preview! I made them cover their eyes...they get scared easily.)

So anyway I thought this looked SCARY. I loved 28 Days Later and this instantly reminded me of it. Mind you, I haven't seen the original...so I'm a newbie to the movie itself. I think I'd go see this one just for fun.
