So, Hayden Christensen is planning to prove he can act in this movie. It's about a journalist fabricating stories. Supposed to be really good and I've been looking forward to it. I'm going to be seeing it in my Journalism class (this week, before it comes out) and writing a review, so if Hobbit wants, I can give my review to this site, as well. I'm sure no one else will see it, so it should be up to me!

This is off topic, I know, and I'm sorry, but when I saw the thread title (Shattered Glass), I just got Stone Cold Steve Austin's theme in my head (and yes, RAW just ended for the night). Just something a diehard wrestling fan would pick up on. OH HELL YEAH!

I actually got a pile of press notes and images in my inbox today. Here's the official synopsys they gave:

Shattered Glass stars Hayden Christensen as Stephen Glass, a staff writer
for the respected current events and policy magazine The New Republic and a
freelance feature writer for publications such as Rolling Stone, Harper¹s
and George. By the mid-90s, Glass¹ articles had turned him into one of the
most sought-after young journalists in Washington, but a bizarre chain of
events _ chronicled in Buzz Bissinger¹s September, 1998 Vanity Fair article
upon which ³Shattered Glass² is based _ suddenly stopped his career in its
tracks. ³Shattered Glass² is a study of a very talented _ and at the same
time very flawed _ character. It is also a look inside our culture¹s noblest
profession, one that protects our most precious freedoms by revealing the
truth, and what happens when our trust in that profession is called into
question. And with the recent revelations at The New York Times, one of
this country¹s most respected newspapers, the issue seems to be pandemic.

Well, we started watching this today. Due to time constraints, I can only see about 50 minutes a day. But I really liked what I saw! It was quite good, and I think we were just starting to get to the really good part of the movie.

Hayden Christensen is actually pretty damn good, too. A fellow student, who absolutely hated him in Episode II and convinced this would suck, too, because of his presence, liked the movie and his performance as well. So, thumbs up.

I wonder how your journalism class got an advance copy? That is very weird.

And they complain about critics getting screeners! No wonder piracy is a problem, they hand them out to anyone!

NotSo, you'll be happy to know though that it looks like we'll be doing some promotional contests on the site for this movie.

I'm going to try and hit a screening here soon too. So you won't be alone! :)

Caught even more of it today! It's getting greater! I'm really loving it.

I will definitely enter a contest if you have one.

And yes, it's weird how my suburban school got a screener VHS. But whatevah, we did.

My dumb review for journalism:

Thomas Jefferson once said, “…And were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.” The film Shattered Glass builds on this idea that the news is all-important.

Shattered Glass tells the story of Stephen Glass (Hayden Christensen), a young reporter for the prestigious New Republic magazine. When Adam Penenberg (Steve Zahn), a reporter for Forbes magazine, discovers several impurities in Glass’s latest grandiose story about hackers, Glass’s own editor Chuck Lane (Peter Sarsgaard) begins to suspect something.

The film Shattered Glass is anchored by the compelling, powerful performances of Christensen and Sarsgaard. With these performances, the film is a thought-provoking and insightful look into journalism.

I wish I had more length, but the teacher said only 125 words.

I liked it a lot. 4.5/5 rings. It comes out tomorrow limited, then next week wider. Check it out.

I FINALLY watched the screener copy I've had sitting on my tv for the past month.

This is a VERY interesting movie. Maybe not a BIG story to tell, in fact it only tells us a very small piece of a small story, but interesting nonetheless, especially if you have even a passing interest in journalism.

However... that having been said...

Hayden Christianson sucks. He plays his character as if Anakin Skywalker had become a journalist or something. Complete with hidden dark side. I wish someone else had gotten that role, because the movie, good as it was could have been even better without him.

He apparently has no range beyond "petulant teen". Blech.

Still, see this thing. VERY cool movie with a very cool story. I can honestly say I had no idea where the movie was going until the very end, even though it spells it out for you all along. It isn't a twist ending, it is just a very interesting journey.
