<i>"The Scary Movie horror spoofs must be some kind of mutant, alien movie franchise. There's just no other explanation for the fact that the sequels actually keep getting better."</i>

PG-13? That doesn't sound well. I remember when I found out Robocop 3 was PG-13, I damn near had a heart attack. Then again, some of these R rated comedies these days do go overboard with this "gross out" fad. Plus it's Zucker. I don't know. I'll know when I see it. Scary Movie 2 didn't sit too well with me. But leave to Zucker & Leslie Neilsen to spark my interest again.

Zucker should do a better job then the last two movies just due to the fact he has years of knowing what makes a movie funny. "and dont call me Shirley"

Like My Boss' Daughter, that was comic gold :blat

I get your point though, between Airplane!, the first 2 Naked Guns, and Top Secret! he definately has clout. But he is good at R rated comedy too, BASEketball is friggin' hysterical.

Today's PG-13 comedy is almost an R rated comedy. R rated comedy's are just gross fests. :\

Unless you are School of Rock which should have been PG.

This still looks funnier than the other 2. But then I had no use for the other 2.

I just wanted to add, when we were discussing about the poster, it looked like Anna had bigger boobs. Well, I guess that was just the poster because from the trailers, she looks the same. *sigh*

This thing is actually getting pretty good reviews.

The consensus seems to be that getting rid of the Wayans was a very good thing.

Sadly Kevin Smith is uncredited

Zucker > Smith when promoting a movie.

Smith was only a producer. What do you want? His name doesn't carry enough selling power to help sell the movie to a bigger demograph like slapping Spielberg's on everything Amblin related does...

Bordick
10-23-2003, 11:10 PM
he's not even a producer.

look at the bottom of the poster (http://www.filmhobbit.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5263)

no mention of Kevin Smith at all.

Are you saying Anna Faris needs bigger breasts? Cause if you are... why? She seems perfect to me. But that's me.

I've always been a fan of this type of humor: farcical slapstick. Who better to hand the reins of this "franchise" over to then David Zucker, the genious behind some of the best farcical slapstick movies ever.

Zucker delivers solidly on a franchise that was lucky to have two movies, and even luckier to have them both be successful. One would think they would have tapped the well dry by this point, and if things had been left in the hands of the Wayans Brothers that might be true, but the third Scarey Movie moves forward with even more oomph then it's predecessors.

Primarily a parody of Signs and The Ring, with nice slaps in the face to Texas Chainsaw Massacre (perfect timing on that one), The Matrix, The Others, Michael Jackson, and Pamela Anderson among others, Scary Movie 3 somehow manages to capture and clone scenes from it's targets, yet still put together a somewhat cohesive plot about alien invasion and the dreadful killer video tape. What's that? It doesn't sound like anything like the previous slasher parodies in the Scary Movie line? That's because other then Anna Faris returning as Cindy, and a brief appearance by Regina Hall who was also in Scary Movie 2, there are no links between the movies. As the slasher films of the late 90s have died off (or gotten so bad there's no point making fun of them), the Scary Movies have had to look for other targets for survival. Luckily Hollywood is still churning out enough movies worthy of parody to keep the series alive.

Faris hasn't changed her character a bit from the other Scary Movies, and that dimwitted naive character still works for the film. Other great appearances and cameos include Pamela Anderson, Jenny McCarthy, Denise Richards, Leslie Nielson, Charlie Sheen, Jeremy Piven, George Carlin, Darrell Hammond... the list goes on and on. Since Sheen and Nielson already have a decent background in these kind of films they just add more strength to Zucker's foundation.

The truly odd thing about this movie though, is that it does manage to separate itself from the problem too many comedies have these days. A lot of comedies show their best jokes in the trailer, ruining the funny moments when they arrive in the film. Not Scary Movie 3! Quite a few of the gags that appear in the trailers never even appear in the movie, hopefully meaning a DVD release chock full of cutting room floor sequences.

Scary Movie 3 isn't a piece of art, but it is exactly what it tries to be: A spoof on Scary Movies. It doesn't try to be anything more then what it is, and because of that all I can say is bring on number 4.

4 rings.

I just don't see how Anna Faris can do Lost in Translation then do crap like this again.

Oh, the PG-13 rating? It's just this side of being an R... it's kinda like School of Rock on the opposite side of the PG-13 spectrum. School of Rock should have been PG, this should have been an R.

I saw it tonight, didn't think my girlfriend would have liked Singing Detective (I'm not sure I would either, but I wanna give it a try).

It's funny that this type of movie is where Charlie Sheen does his best work, but the whole Signs parody scenes with him were hilarious.

Anyways, I found myself laughing alot throughout the film. Each time this was also running through my mind, "That was so stupid! Why am I still laughing?????"

Zucker's influence on the film is absurdly obvious. Especially during the wake scene that was just a little like a certain Naked Gun scene. [/sarcasm]

No point in going into anything, I think Taln covered most of the important elements already. It's the funniest of the 3 in the series, and that was good enough for me.

Oh, and could they advertise Matrix any more? Usually there are different posters on the way up the escalator to the theaters, but all of them were Matrix posters. Except for a Cat in the Hat display on one floor.

Mine left sometime after the credits. I stayed, but it told me it would wait in the car.

Was there supposed to be something funny in this movie?

I must have been out buying ju-ju fruit when it happened.

Funny Moments:

The Fight through the TV w/ The Girl & The Oracle

The Shot for Shot parodies of Signs at the beginning

The Open Casket Funeral/Wake

The opening w/ Jenny McCarthy & Pamela Anderson (just the fact that it was them was great!)

The parody of the accident w/ Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards

Leslie Nielson's Airplane quote

None of these cracked you up in the least?

Josh
10-28-2003, 02:00 PM
No. They were all horrible, derivative, ripped off from other movies, jokes that have been done 100 times before in one form or another... all of them.

Nothing new, nothing creative, nothing funny.

Oh look! He's beating the shit out of a corpse! I haven't seen that in a couple of days! Not since I watched Weekend at Bernie's 2 on TNT!

Oh look! George Carlin is pretending to be the Architect! I've only seen that done what... 50 times since Reloaded was released a few months ago???

Oh look! The black woman is getting "all up" in the face of the girl in the TV! I haven't see anything like that before!! It is funny because she is getting up in her face. Ugh.

Glad you enjoyed it Taln, but it was pretty sad, at least to me.

Fun review, Hobbit. It sounds about what I expect from it.
It made alot of money though so I'm looking forward to your Scary Movie 4 review.

Josh
10-28-2003, 02:48 PM
I'm looking forward to it too. :P

That was a fun review to write. Only took me about 20 minutes too, which is rare these days. Probably because I didn't care how it came out. It sucks, oh well. I was inspired to start writing when I stared at a picture of Cameron Manheim's ever growing hat.

Usually bad reviews take me longer. This one is poorly edited, but who cares.

That was my feeling. Why should I put more effort into my review than they put into the movie.

You've been laid up a little longer than me even. I only did 1.5 weeks on the couch. Aren't you hitting 2 weeks now?
