Is this going to be a wide release, or just a major cities kind of thing?

Limited at first, but may widen.

I think 350 theaters to start? Something like that. They've started running ads for it on TV.

Damn that movie still looks GOOD. The Effects haven't aged at all.

I just don't like the stuff they've added. It's not like THey're putting in stuff that has never seen the light of day, all the shit's on the DVD and when you watch it seperatly you can see why it was cut. Adding it back in then marketing it as a "Director's Cut" is pretty stupid, Apocalypse Now: Redux didn't take in alot with it's rerelease. But then again the extra shit for them added to the flick a different tone whic I thought was pretty good. I don't know anymore, I'm just rambling.

I'm just glad that I'll actually be able to see the film in the theater.

I hope I'm not the only one that saw it today... If you haven't...

What are you doing here? Go see it! Now!
It's not every day that you get to see a grade A hardcore sci-fi movie in theaters, especially in digital projection!
In fact that last bit was a total surprise... I got to the theater, bought my ticket, and saw that it said digital! No one advertised it, the theater itself didn't have that written anywhere, that was a very cool surprise.
(in fact it's rather odd how low key this re-release is. But at least it wasn't a problem to get tickets).

And the movie looks beautiful! You would never guess this is a movie from 1979. In an ironic twist what dates it is the ridiculously primitive computer graphics. All the sets and models couldn't have possibly looked any better. Every wire, every bolt looks authentic, you can almost reach out and touch the hardware. And since there's a lot of handheld camera work you feel like you're there with these miserable people.

Unfortunately there was maybe one person present that hasn't seen the movie yet. I could only imagine what it must have been like back in 1979, likely inducing plenty of screams. Instead the audience chuckled at the stupidity of some of the characters. But then again calling it stupidity isn't quite right. One of the things I've always loved about the movie is that these are ordinary people. Not action heroes, not trained soldiers etc. I'm sure I'd react very much the same way in their shoes.

One thing I really hoped for is that the added scenes wouldn't screw up the movie. Thankfully they didn't. In fact they blend so well that unless you were really familiar with the movie you couldn't even tell what changed. Only one major scene is obvious (you know the one) and I'm undecided on this one... the key to alien is show as little as possible... showing what actually happens to those people is not necessary. But at least it was well done.

My lasting thought on this, is that people keep trying to make alien clone movies... Why bother! The movie is flawless. Ridley Scott has an amazing eye for detail and you don't even pick up all the subtle things until you see it on the big screen.

Thank god for re-releases!

I hope they re-release Ghostbusters next year. And I hope it's a huge hit. And I hope they release Ghostbusters II. And I hope that's a huge hit. And I hope that Columbia gets so excited that they reunite Ivan Reitman with Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver for Ghostbusters III. And lastly, I hope Ghostbusters III doesn't suck.

I love the Ghostbusters. :)

When this was changed from a wide release to a limited release my city lost it... despite my theater already having posters, trailers, buttons, etc...

So I guess I won't be catching this one. :(

Went and saw it on the big screen last night...

VERY COOL to see it like that! Man this movie holds up well after all these years, and is still scary as hell!

I have no idea where the new footage was, since it has been years since I saw it and when I did it was always on TV all cut up and edited.

Fantastic re-release though, wish more old greats could get a re-release.

I had the pleasure of seeing this tonight with my girlfriend, who has never seen an Alien film.

Like Hobbit, it's been years since I last saw it so the additional scenes weren't noticed. But this is the way I always prefer to see additional scenes, as part of the movie. One thing is to see the different takes that ended up on the cutting room floor as extras on a DVD, quite another to watch a scene that could have been in the movie.

They should take the LOTR approach more often. I'd rather have two versions of a film with one having the additional scenes.

The plot of Alien was exactly the same as I remembered it, so the additions didn't change anything.

Best part of the show was watching my girlfriend cringe under her coat as I tried to yank it away from her. She was leery after seeing The Exorcist in the theater for the first time and thinking it to be lame. We were both pleasantly surprised at how Alien holds up in a theater in 2003.

But you know what's scarier than Alien? Walking out of the theater and seeing hundreds and hundreds of people riding bikes down Broadway in Halloween costumes. I'll have nightmares.

Yeah, it is actually pretty cool how SCARY this thing still is. My wife literally jumped on top of me a couple of times and held onto my arm so tight throughout the entire movie I thought it was going numb... and she NEVER really does that. Heck, she likes horror and scary crap a lot better than I do.

So does this mean you have gotten over your "Kill Sigourney Weaver" Fetish?

Wha? No of course not. She's still hideous and disgusting. Nice bod when she was younger, but still extremely ugly.

That underwear at the end of Alien by the way is utterly rediculous! :lol
