The very notion of EDJ whacking off to Dale Cooper brushing his teeth is something far more disturbing than any of Lynch's output. :yuck

Sweet- The twins are definitely interesting if not vocal characters in Carnivale- I also love the bearded lady and the snake man...

Finished season 1 last night. HOLY SHIT! I really love this show. I wish they hadn't killed Lodz. I didn't really like him that much but the guy who played him was cool on the Pretender so I liked him for that:lol Can't wait for season 2 to finish downloading.
Yet another show I need to check out, and possibly catch up on. Argh.

Thats a pretty stupid reason to not watch a show. First season is awesome and the episodes I've watched from season 2 are even better.
Says who? Why waste my time watching a show if it only lasted one season...or almost 2? Either way.
Not to mention, each season cost nearly 100 ****ing bucks to purchase.

Number of episodes means nothing. There were only 12 episodes of the office and it's concidered by most people to be a great show. Family Guy and Futurama were both cancelled after only a few seasons. And the american version of The Office (which if I remember correctly, you enjoyed quite a bit) got cancelled after only six episodes. Even great shows like Alias and 24 only have a collective two seasons worth of good episodes. Call me crazy, but I think I'd rather a solid two seasons over six years of good episodes intermixed between a lot of crap.
As far as the price goes... there's always netflix as well as other... alternative options;)

First of all, The Office was renewed. Futurama lasted 5 seasons, and Family Guy was cancelled after 3, then renewed again, and currently in season 4, I believe. I guess I'm just saying that I have too many other shows I'm trying to catch up on to be bothered with a hard to find downloadable copies/overpriced boxsets of a show that only lasted two seasons or less.:) Plus, I don't use Netflix anymore.
Not to mention that a show like Carnivale probably doesn't have the highest repeat viewing quality to it (just a guess). Sure, I love 24, but I don't own any of the seasons, and I don't really have the desire to rewatch any of the episodes (except for maybe the season 4 finale).

Just finished season 2. greatness. I'm not surprised that there isn't going to be a season 3 at all after seeing it. They pretty much finish the story. They planted few new seeds at the end so that I guess they could have gone on, but the storyline from seasons 1 and 2 is definately resolved. Good call by HBO not to renew it. I wish more shows would go out on a high note like that.

I'm fine with it being done, I mean Season 2 had so much frickin' closure to it in the first place.....but there's that part of me that wants more. So much to play with there. If anything the second season made the first season a hell of alot better.

In a somewhat unusual strategy, HBO Chairman Chris Albrecht refutes claims that his network is no longer capable of generating watercooler buzz by referencing an already cancelled drama.
"Never have we gotten besieged the way we have been besieged by 'Carnivale' fans for deciding not to go on with the third season of that show," Albrecht admits. "I mean literally 50,000 e-mails over a weekend and I don't mean the first weekend. It's so over-the-top, not just in terms of the number, but in terms of things that they say and threaten."
Do you hear that, "Carnivale" fans? HBO has heard your wailing and gnashing of teeth, but no matter how much you threaten to boil their bunnies, make pate of their dogs or get medieval on their hindquarters, the Depression-era drama, starring Nick Stahl and Clancy Brown, isn't coming back any time soon.
Albrecht tells reporters that the second season of "Carnivale" was originally supposed to conclude with a satisfying and close-ended conclusion -- the ultimate confrontation between Brown's problematic Brother Justin and Stahl's miracle-working Ben -- but that producers decided to add a cliffhanger, leaving the show's small, but passionate legion of devotees at a loss.
Sure, audiences for "Carnivale" were down dramatically in the show's second season. And sure, creator Daniel Knauf signed a development deal to defect to Showtime as the second season was still concluding. Those factors aside, though, it sounds as if the problem was money.
"[H]onestly, if 'Carnivale' was a $2 million-an-hour show, we'd keep going with it," Albrecht says. "But a period piece, shot all on location, a huge cast like that ... by the third season of a show time that -- and you've got to order at least 13 episodes to give something a real shot -- it's an enormous investment."
Albrecht still sounds proud of the show, which has hauled in an impressive number of technical Emmy nominations the past two years, but he's also got an air of finality.
"You have to says, 'Can I take this money and allocate it in other ways to appeal to that same audience?'" he explains. "Although after reading the e-mails, I'm not sure."

Just started rewatching season 1. the way they planned everything out for this is so brilliant. they hint at things in the first ep that they dont even get to until season 2. more shows should do this.

found an interesting article that shed some light on where the show was going.
Hercules over at TSTSLBN reports that Beth Blighton, who runs fansite CarnyCon has heard from "an unimpeachable source" that Carnivale has been given the ax.
This is a very sad day for fans of the show, as it was previously reported that the final episode's ratings were comparable to the same evening's episode of Deadwood, which has already been greenlit for a third season. Adding further proof is the fact that stars Clancy Brown and Brian Turk appeared on the site's chat room last night to provide a shoulder for fans to cry on.
Creator Daniel Knauf has gone on record as saying that he would continue to explore other options for releasing the final two-thirds of his story in the event of a cancellation. He originally planned three "books", each split into two season for a total of six. I certainly hope so, since the final episode left things pretty open
After reading that I wish it had been renewed:( I heard HBO offered to let them do a 2 hour movie to finish all the storylines up but they turned it down because if would take longer than 2 hours to do that. They might continue the story as a comic book though...
EDIT
I was just watching the season 1 finale and it seems like they were hinting at the sophie thing as early as that. So It looks like the didnt just throw it on the end of season 2 to have a cliffhanger but really were planning on using that as the bridge into the next "book". very interesting...

lots of nice Carnivale info from CarnyCon:
The first ever CarnyCon was held in LA on April 21 and was attended by most of the show's cast as well as creator Daniel Knauf. Several tidbits about the future of the show were shared and I thought the fans of the show would be interested in hearing them. All this stuff is from convention reports on the Yahoo Carnivale board.
- Carnivale Season 2 will be released in the US on July 18. You can check out the details and cover art here: http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/carnivale2.html
- Marvel Comics (who Knauf currently writes Iron Man for) is very interested in continuing Carnivale in graphic novel format. Unfortunately, HBO is completely unwilling to give up the rights to the show. This could be because of all the rumors swirling about the show being revived or perhaps they just don't want to risk the comic being a success and making them look bad (Knauf's words).
- Lodz was originally supposed to have a much larger role in the story. As a human who knew a lot about the light and dark houses, he felt that these powerful forces were keeping humanity subjugated. His goal was to gain a large amount of power himself and change this. Unfortunately, HBO wanted someone to die for the season one finale and Lodz was chosen.
- Belyakov attempted to kill his son (Justin) when he was an infant because he sensed something was wrong with him. His wife caught him in the act and he was sent to an asylum. She took the children to America while he was locked up.
Below are tidbits about what was to come in Season 3. I've spoiled them for people who are incredible optimists and think the show might come back in some form.
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#000000"><tr><td><font color="#000000"> - Wounds inflicted by the anointed blades do not heal, so Ben and Justin are scarred from their battle. Justin was said to have a "ticking time bomb" in his chest as a result of their fight.
- The third season would open with Justin giving a sermon. We would pull out and see Iris on one side and Sofie on the other. Then a three year old boy would run up, leaving the question as to whose son.
- Ben would start to gather the troupe back together over the course of the season. While the third season would have a carnival, it wouldn't be Carnivale, which had dispersed.
- We would see Jonesy playing professional baseball with Libby as a baseball-wife in a nice apartment. When he was called back by Ben, Libby would be reluctant since she had finally escaped from that life.
- Stumpy and Rita-Sue have been on the alligator farm in Florida.
- Knauf said that the most "heroic" character in the show is Justin. Because he's known what he is, at least unconsciously, since childhood, and has been actively battling it--"waging war" against it by seeking to make himself a man of God, a minister. DK said that while Scudder had simply tried to run away, Justin was more noble because he had "waged war." And his giving in and embracing Darkness in Season 2 wan't meant to be permanent. His battle would have continued in subsequent seasons--while changes in Ben would have left us in doubt as to who was truly good, who evil. DK said the Ben of Season 3 would have been VERY different (his emphasis) from the Ben we knew. His methods would become more like management's. Sophie also may have changed her nature through the rest of the series.
And to cap it all off, here's how the show would supposedly end: According to Knauf and Clancy Brown, you've already seen the ending through the visions of the characters. Ben and Sophie kiss and the bomb ends up being detonated. </font></td></tr></table>
