View Full Version : New Nationstates Thread
The People's Republic of Mellmack is a very large, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 93 million are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Social Welfare. The average income tax rate is 78%, and even higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Gambling.
Citizens are barcoded to keep track of their movements, psychological disorders are a taboo subject, the government extracts trade concessions from poor nations in exchange for humanitarian aid, and people regularly disappear off the streets and all evidence of them is destroyed. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Mellmack's national animal is the cat, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the furball.
Everything is going according to plan... MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Hmm, if your people are eating the currency, how can the economy hold up? :lol

No, we eat the cats, and trade their furballs.

LOL!
The Issue
The latest "Harry Potter" book to hit schools across Tayside has stirred up the greatest controversy yet.
The Debate
1. "I quite enjoyed the book, until I got to the part where Harry summons evil demons to do his bidding," says religious leader Jennifer du Pont. "Now that's just wrong. We need to restore some sense to this debate, by which I mean we should remove this book from the shelves, salt it thoroughly, and burn it."
[Accept]
2. Teachers union President Peggy Love says, "Come on, the book is fantasy! And it's a damn good read. I'd like the government to issue a statement of support for our teachers and librarians, so kids can enjoy good books without interference from religious wackos, like Christians."
[Accept]
It is funny/depressing at how many stupid proposals are made by such naive and ignorant people.
Crap like this " Cut all Military Spending " proposal saying it would end all fighting and create world peace.
Well, Kum ba ****in ya! How ignorant is this? Since when do "evil" people follow the rules. I mean it is a tad bit scary that folks this would work. Now somebody on the far end of the spectrum will inevitably misconstrue my disdain for this as a support of war. Well, stop being naive. Hell no it doesnt'. I'm just realistic and not walking around with daisies shoved up my ass.
