See now I'm just way too much of a soft hearted person.

When I saw the video of him being examined by the doctor (looking in his mouth, etc.) and then the still of his face after shaving the first emotion I felt was pity.

He's an old man. You can see a distinct difference in his eyes and face from the time he was in charge to today. He looks resigned and tired and like he's aged a lot. My gut reaction was truly pity.

This doesn't mean that I've forgotten that he's a monster and deserves whatever he gets....it just goes to show you that I should never be in charge of punishing a guy like him...I can't see past the person to the crimes.

This is obviously great news, but I'm amazed at how badly they handled this. I don't give a damn about those who complain that we can't display prisoners of war on TV, because this is a special case.

It is obvious that they wanted to show the world that it really was Saddam, and also that he was basically defeated -- okay, that makes sense, fair enough.

But to show this to the world, cmon, I don't think that is a very sensible way to go about doing it, you know...

Seriously, this is good news, great news. It's now just a matter of time before he's put on trial. But it depends to be seen who does him- the Iraqis themselves, the Coalition, or both. It won't suprise me if the Hague asks to be a venue to try him, and it'll also be interesting to see what Kuwait and Iran have to say about Hussein. But now we can see what, after a fashion, trying Hitler would have been like.

other than that, the one thing that comes to my mind, when Saddam had that long beard, with that disheveled look.......he kinda looked like an Arabic Gandalf. It's the nose, eyes, and beard.
