Listen up boys and girls, what we've learned here is that Oprah Winfrey likes things on her terms ... and turf.
After months of late night talk show host David Letterman openly campaigning for her to be a guest on CBS' "Late Show" -- an offer that she's declined due to feeling "uncomfortable" during her two previous visits -- the queen of daytime chat has asked him to come to her syndicated show.
The theoretical ice between the two hosts seems to have been thawing since literacy advocate Winfrey sent Letterman a care package of children's books for his recently born son, Harry.
"What we're hearing now is that Oprah no longer hates me," Letterman told his audience on Friday (Dec. 12) night, before confiding to bandleader Paul Shaffer that he's sure he will "sob like a little girl" when he's reunited with Winfrey, not to mention having to endure a session with Winfrey's friend Dr. Phil McGraw.
Never one to shy away from hyperbole, Letterman went on to describe his imagined "Super Bowl of Love," which will conclude with Winfrey and Letterman going downstage, receiving flowers from the crowd and finally -- at long last -- kissing.
Despite Winfrey's offering of an olive branch, Letterman has yet to accept what would be the end to one of his enduring comedy bits.
