The first album you ever bought? Or got for a gift if you didn't buy it yourself?

I think the first album I ever bought for myself was Billy Squier's album with "The Stroke" on it. I think I was in 7th or 8th grade and that album was HUGE at the time.

The first album I recall getting as a gift was actually the soundtrack to the movie "Christine". My first name is Christine and on my 14th or 15th birthday different people gave me the book, the soundtrack, and the movie poster.

The first album I ever bought was the Beavis and Butthead expirence in Fourth Grade, it was like a schizo's mix album

Nirvana, Megadeth, Sir Mix a lot, Run DMC, and Cher. :lol

I can't recall the first album that I ever bought, but as far back as I can remember showing interesting in music, and purchasing albums, I joined the BMG music club, and the first albums I remember purchasing from there were Collective Soul's self titled album and No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom. A bit mainstreem, but hey, I was a kid.:)

I don't remember the first full length album. But the first 45 I ever bought was J. Geils, Angel in the Centerfold.

Oh man I totally forgot about .45's! I used to have one of those little box record players and I had tons of .45's.

I was a kid in the 70's and early eighties so my little player had lots of disco on it. Very sad. I remember Gloria Gaynor...I Will Survive which I still think is a good song.

I also recall Leif Garrett and Sean Cassidy...I was big on the teeny-boppers. Oh, I'm so old!

The first LPs in my collection were -

First album I got to pick for myself ('cause Mom had RCA Record Club bonus points to burn) and call my own: Hair - The Original Broadway Cast Recording.

First album I was given (if you don't count the above as a gift): Marrying Maiden - It's A Beautiful Day. It was a going-away present when I moved, from San Francisco to Carbondale, Illinois, from my 8th Grade classmates.

First album I spent my own money on: Abbey Road. I bought it during the dreadful summer between 8th Grade and my freshman year, after having moved. I think I still know all the songs by heart.

maaan, how can you guys remember all that? I find it hard to even remember what the heck I had for breakfast some days!
Now if I think REAL hard, the first album I had, whether it was given to me or not, might have been Queen or Metallica.
The first CD I got was of compilations I think.
You know, I've spoken to kids that have never seen a record before let alone an audio cassette!

"Classic Queen" a greatest hits album of the band Queen.......had a bunch of cool stuff on it. But the guy who lived across the street from me in my younger Long Island days borrowed it, and I haven't seen it since.

Music's a great mnemonic for me. I moved a lot when I was growing up, and remembering what was playing helps me remember where I was, and when. Or something like that...
