Not sure why most people are bitching about this movie.
It wasn't that bad. People don't seem to realize what bad is. If you want bad watch this (http://www.videodetective.com/home.asp?PublishedID=846569&VideoKbRate=1&AltID=&CustomerID=14817&WM=True&Ads=True&Play=False&Shorten=False) and shush your pie hole :blat
As for Underworld, it won't win prizes for being original ... so what? They ripped off The Matrix and Blade ... so? Which recent flick (http://www.videodetective.com/home.asp?PublishedID=737789&VideoKbRate=1&AltID=&CustomerID=14817&WM=True&Ads=True&Play=False&Shorten=False) doesn't? ;)
Underworld is a no brainer, a visual feast, a stylish little action/horror romp and I'll be damned if Kate Beckinsale isn't the hottest female vampire to hit the screens in years :)

Yeah, it seems to get a lot of both negative and positive reviews..still on my "to watch" list.

and Blunt I think that's the first time that House of the Dead has been used to back up an arguement :lol

Just hinting that I'm not dead serious about this thread ;)
Yeah, the hate is misplaced and over hyped Blunt.
It isn't the best movie of the year, but I liked it a lot. Fun, beautifully filmed flick with some nice ideas.
And the Matrix comparison is STILL BOGUS!
Wearing leather doesn't mean you are ripping off the matrix. Argh!

I rented it a few weeks ago, and rather liked it. Not great, but it wasn't a waste of either time or money.

I saw this on DVD a month or so ago. I ****ING HATED it.
And I must say, it was the LOUDEST DVD ever.
It is REALLY loud. Blow your eardrums out.
Makes McG movies look quiet.

Was it just me, or did it seem that a lot of the male characters were, like, Scott Stapp wannabees.

I'm actually keeping an eye out for that HOTD DVD tomorrow.
I've decided to buy this little piece of bad cheese, I think I'll get a kick out of it :D
I liked Underworld. Kate Beckinsale was pretty good, and great looking in leather.
Michael had a huge neck.

Someone want to tell me how this movie is compared to The Matrix. Because I don't see it.

Because there are people in it wearing black.
You see, from now on whenever people wear black, they are rippping off The Matrix. Didn't you know that? They have copyrighted that color.

That's odd. I thought Johnny cash did that.

It's not so much the blackness....it's the skin tight vinal/leather goth deal
Plus any type of special effects ala bullet time.

There were about two shots in slow motion which has been done since the dawn of time in action movies. That is NOT the same as bullet-time.

Tay's quite right. I saw no bullet time.
They used the poster I like as the basis for the cover... but then totally ruined it with weirdly colored lettering and exessive quoting.
GRRRR.

Well, I have no room to talk really, since I still have not seen it. But, from the trailers, it looked like you were more than likely to see some bullet time or something like that in the full film.
Guess I was wrong though, but that's a good thing.

Trailers today are designed to suck you in the door with coolness, not to tell you what the movie's about. Look at Matrix Revolutions, the trailer is cut in such a way that it is full of red herrings as to how the final movie played out.
And generally if it's a lower budget movie, they'll play on the coattails of a bigger production to boost interest.

Slow motion has been around forever. I remember when it was made a big deal (ok, moderate sized deal) when John Woo did some pretty cool slo-mo effects in Hard Target. Then it went overboard with Nic Cage getting out of the car at the airport in Face/Off.
BTW, I haven't seen Hard Target since I was a teenager. Is the movie as cool as I remember it, or should I just avoid watching it again? Reviews on IMDB are not promising... I have a deep fear of revisiting Van Damme movies since my movie taste has matured.
Anyhoo, I don't see the resemblance between Matrix and Underworld. But someone should tell Singer so they can change up the mood and costumes of X3.
