I couldn't stand it anymore and I wasted 20 bucks picking up the newly released hardcover copy of the tenth book in the wheel of time series yesterday.

I hate myself. I never buy hardcover. To damn expensive. Why can't the release paperback at the same time... the bastards.

So far I've just finished the 50 page prologue, which presents some interesting things beginning to happen in Caemlyn and Arad Domon.

Oh, and Jordan has finally decided to pick up Loial again. Where has he been? I'll soon find out.

The more I read the more annoyed Im getting. The book is good but you are subjected through alot of boring crap in the begining few chapters.

Oh on the new characters, the only ones that are truly new are transition characters that set up events for the major characters so I dont mind those.

My big gripe is that it looks like YET AGAIN Jordan is not going to resolve a damn thing.

None of these storylines ever get wrapped up and he just keeps adding new ones.

Last thing he said was that the book company was paying him handsomly to stretch it into 12 books. Thats why this latest is modestly sized.

Please God let it end with book 12. Though it is likely he won't make it till book 12 at the pace he is writing them due to the spreading cancer he has.

All the story guidlines are mapped out and ready to be written. In the case that he dies before he publishes the last one.

Almost done with this. SO far this book is the suck! It goes vertually no where and you dont even get to read anything on Rand until somewhere close to page 550. sigh. This almost seems rushed.

Yep, it is crap. the first 1/2 of the book is COMPLETELY spent talking about what happened in the previous book!!!!

He is intentionally stretching it when he SHOULD be wrapping it up. The way he's going, this series is going to go to book 20. Except chances are no one will be reading anymore by then.

Well I finished it.

And just when it finally started to get at least a little interesting, the book was over.

Worst WOT book yet. Jordan is just a cheap charlaton tease.

I'm not sure at this point if I'll even bother reading book 11 if his goal is just to string me along so he can sell more books.

Even worse than Path of Daggers Hobbit?

Yeah.

I mean maybe the writing itself isn't so bad, it's just the fact that he is INTENTIONALLY dragging this thing out to get more money. It is SO clear after reading this that that is his goal.

10 should have started bringing things together. BIG things should have happened in 10. Instead he just STRETCHES the story out as long as he can to make sure he can write more books for us to pay for.

So, what's your favorite book in the series Hobbs? I think I remember you saying you liked The Shadow Rising, but have you liked any book in the series better? For me so far, it's a toss up between Shadow Rising and Lord of Chaos.

Book 4 is my favorite overall.

But I think Book 9 has the BEST ending of them all. Love that.

So far, Book 9 is actually pretty good and I'm only on page 300.

Hobbs, the only reason why you liked then end of book 9 is because something actually got accomplished. ;)

Exactly.

I liked the other endings better until I found out that Jordan just brought everyone he killed back to life, thus making everything that happened in all of the other books pretty pointless.

Stupid.

But at the end of Book 9, something ACTUALLY HAPPENED. I almost fainted.

Of course I'm sure we'll find out that it was all for naught and that the Source is still tainted. That seems to be the way these books work. Everythin the characters do is for nothing in the end.

I would actually almost prefer the tainting of the Source because it makes Rand's character all the more interesting.

I don't think I can handle book 10. I trudged through all 9 books and it turned into work during those last few books. Even though I hate not finishing a series, I just can't stand it anymore. Maybe i'll just look for a summary when all 12 come out heh..jordan cliff notes.

Is it only going to be a total of 12? That would be good and bad. I mean, Jordan has soooooooooo many loose ends now that tieing them all up will probably be impossible or just handled badly if that is the case. But I am ready to call the series finished anyways. I completely understand Bebop's reasoning.

Well, for me, I haven't been exactly BORED with the books. Even Path of Daggers, which is so far the least interesting of the series, still kept my interest, so as long as the books keep holding my interest, I will continue reading them.

EDIT: Oh, and as far as finishing at 12, I think he could still tie up most of the loose ends and finish it if he makes the last two about as long as books 4 and 6, and besides, RJ has stated that some of the loose ends will never be resolved, like I don't think we will ever have in writing who killed Asmodean and other things.

Josh

Really? If he isn't going to tie up all these MILLIONS of mysteries he's worked into his books, then I'm not even sure why I'm reading. Leaving so much as a "myster" is kind of annoying... and just plain bad writing, don't you think?

masterthes

Yeah, he's weird like that. Anyway, just finished Winter's Heart. Definitely a great end, although it is different than the rest of his endings in that it just leaves you hanging in a way, and to think, people had to wait about three years for Crossroads. By the way Hobbit, do you remember when you were at Staci's, there was a girl there whose name was Choden Kal? I guess we know now where she got that name from. :lol

Josh

I vaguely remember that! I'd totally forgotten her. I was never at Staci's very often.

Well, I just finished the prolouge. One of the better prolouges of the series I must say. Very awesome to see the Whitecloaks, Gawyn and Loial back. I also liked Jordan's nod to Tolkien when he had Loial's name be Underhill. Good stuff so far.
