Let's say your favorite team signed or traded for player. Most guys even if you disliked them on other teams you can grow to like.

Who are some athletes you would hate even if they were on your favorite team.

For me, Claude Lemieux was a perfect example. I hated that P.O.S. What a scumbag without an ounce of real talent. If he would have ever signed with the Red Wings back in the day or my Thrashers now, I wouldn't cheer for him for anything.

John Rocker. Even in pinstripes I would boo him.

There aren't really many athlete's I hate that much.

I guess maybe Eric Lindros.

I have a bigger problem with the reverse, atheletes I really love getting traded to teams I hate.

For instance I used to LOVE Kariya and Selanne. Now they are on Colorado, and I find it impossible to like them.

Though I was a HUGE Ray Borque fan... and when he went to Colorado, that was the only time I cheered even a little for the Avs to win the cup.

I'm a football guy so......

Warren Sapp: Not because of his hit on Chad Clifton (remember, I'm a Packers fan), but because of his big self overated ass. The off season after the sack record was broken, he came out and claimed he was going to break the new record, the next season. He got six sacks. Last year he got two. I enjoyed the rivalry between him and Farve, but while Farve may have lost a little of his game getting older, Sapp has lost near all of his, but his mouth hasn't figured that out yet.

Randy Moss: He may be turning things around, maybe. But anyone who is blessed with the talent to be the best receiver to EVER play the game, and who pisses it away for several years as if it was his God given right irritates the hell out of me.

Terrell Owens: You don't pose infront of the ball in the middle of your opponents logo on the 50 yard line. You just don't. And if you manage to get your quarterback and coach released/fired before the same team releases your primadonna ass, you would think that might tell you something.

Keyshawn Johnson: The most egotistical seven yard posession receiver to ever walk the earth.

Honorable mention: Jeremy Shockey

As a diehard Knicks fan, I don't think I could ever root for Michael Jordan, or Shaq. Both are complete assholes, who usually need alot of help from the refs to beat the Knicks. I can't stand players who think they're all that, but in reality, they're only the "best" because the refs save their asses time in and out. Jordan was one of those players who was basically handed a silver spoon from David Stern, and allowed to run roughshod over the NBA. Same with Shaq- 15 years ago, he'd have been run out of the league for the way he plays, but today, he gets a free pass. I'd spit on him, and MJ, if they ever work the Orange and White.

As for Hockey, I'd never want Darcy Tucker on the Isles. I think Peca would do to him, what he did to Peca a few years back.

I also hate Rocker, although he's an afterthought nowadays. Not a fan of Clemens, who won't admit he tried to end Piazza's career, after Piazza kept hitting homers off of him. I also can't stand Chipper Jones, such a whiny southerner (no offense to southerners). And I would never, ever, want Carl Everett near my team.

Unfortunately, I did have to deal with hating Rocker when he was traded to the Rangers. He sucked, too.

Derreck Jeter, too.

As far as football, there are a few. Terrell Owens, Donovan McNabb, Bill Romonowski, and a few others. Then there's Keyshawn Johnson. Man, if he was a Cowboy I don't know WHAT I'd do!
. . . oh wait. Oh well, he'll be a help to the team, but I still hate him.

ahh I just watched a few minutes of the "Hand of God" match a few minutes ago. HE SO hit that ball in with his hand.

Faf, my friend, I'm calling you out. Michael Jordan needed the refs to beat the Knicks? c'mon I couldn't stand the Bulls either but he's still top 3 players of all time. I couldn't stand Joe Montana during the 80s because he destroyed my Falcons constantly but I did recognize his brilliance.

I really hated Brett Hull and Chris Chelios before joining the Wings. It too awhile but I'm tolerant of em. Hull has such the cocky look on his face, I guess that's why he bugged me when he was on the blues.

Rocker, I wouldn't waste a second on. His comments were over blown and overhyped, just like Rocker. He was just a dumb ass. My main problem during the whole Rocker time was Bobby Choinnard (sp?) ,then of the Rockies, pulled a gun on his wife and put it to her head and the media barely mentioned it.

But call people names, all hell breaks loose. This countries over infatuation of "words" over actual bad behavior (LIKE THREATENING TO KILL YOUR WIFE WITH A GUN TO HER HEAD) is most disturbing.

But touching on what FH said, I like Tom Glavine but he became "dead to me" when he joined them sorry arsed Mets. ( :lol sorry faf )

Didn't say that Jordan wasn't a great player; he is. But I am saying that he needed help at times to beat teams-not just the Knicks- and this is something that the entire league (when David Stern isn't looking) says about him. Everyone knows that star players get "preferential treatment" from the refs. Remember the 1993 Game 6, EAstern Conference Finals? Tell me that Charles Smith wasn't fouled on the last play of the game. Remember that 55 point game Jordan had against the Knicks, in his "comeback"? On the last Bulls drive, right after he passed the ball inside, he either knocks or shoves a Knick player asides- no foul. And that's just off the top of my head. Jordan acts like he's the Son of God, when he's just a very, very good basketball player, but basketball's a team sport- and he sometimes has great players, and sometimes doesn't. And btw, you think the NBA wanted a Knicks-Suns matchup in 1993? Get real. I personally think that every basketball team that doesn't have the "current player that David Stern's ooogling at" should have Chris Benoit on their bench to bitchslap the refs whenever they get out of line. Or maybe just to beat Kobe up for the time he punched Bibby a few years ago.

But touching on what FH said, I like Tom Glavine but he became "dead to me" when he joined them sorry arsed Mets. ( :lol sorry faf

And I lost all respect for Mike Hampton when he left the Mets for "those Colorado schools are better for my kids than NY schools" S'yeah, right, asshole. Hope Hampton likes what his career's become: a joke. But as for Glavine, what'd you think of him getting a 6 innning, 2 run, 4 hit, win over your Braves this season? ;)

Rocker's comments were very overblown. I can't remember the writer's name, but he's a jerk.
But Rocker was annoying just the same, and his 6-something ERA as the closer of my team made me hate him even more.
Still missing John Wettland.

Matt

Yeah I hated Rocker more for bringing attention on to himself constantly and kind of alienating his teammates. He was a great closer for about a year and a half then when he bottomed out, boy did he suck.

As a non-American watching sports person, I don't know half the people you are talking about.
I was always a Geelong Cat's fan (Australian Rules football), while my brother was a Hawkes Fan (Hawthorn). The only person I ever cheered for that was not on my team was my PE Teacher who was on the Hawkes. I didn't feel too guilty about it, I mean the guy was my teacher, and he was the brother of the best player ever on the Cats.

For the life of me I can't think of their last name, but the Hawks player was Jeff and the Cats was Gary....

I'll just state the comments Matt made about Rocker were right on. Overblown for an overblowen closer. Priorities of many folk about whom they dislike for what seems really screwy to me when you look at the reaction to that vs what we see from a great many other folk.

Baseball - anyone on the Yank. Giambi esp, since he ran from a small market team to the pinstripes.

Football - Sapp and Moss top the list as first class jerks. Bruce Smith was another at the end of his career, considering he was in it for his own egotistical self the last couple of years and didn't really care about the team. Ray Lewis is another. Great Talent wasted on a truely a-whip of a human.

:blat So lost!

About Smith, what made me officially hate him was last year when he got the sack record and he said, "now this team can go on and start winning." He didn't even make it seem like an odd idea that he would create a personal reality where the team holds on for him to finish personal bussiness.

Being a guy who rides the # 7 Train in NYC/Queens quite often. Let me say one thing about John Rocker......he was right. There I said it. He was absolutely dead freakin' on. Your bump has inspired me to post.

Jerry Rice. Even in his heyday. I spent most of my childhood listening to everybody yap on about Jerry Rice was the greatest reciever of all time, when Steve Largent was just as good. That developed a healthy dislike for him, but he went over the edge when he started to play for the Raiders. After spending so much time with the 49ers, and then he got himself traded at the end of his career just for another shot at a championship, I just don't like it.

Similarly, I would be upset if Favre chose to go to another team for that one last shot at glory. After spending that much time with a city and a loyal fan base, you owe it to them to finish your career there, on the high note of spending so much of your career with a single team.

Matt
01-12-2006, 05:17 PM
He was actually let to go to the Raiders because the 49ers didn't want him anymore really. And.. I love Largent but he's no Jerry Rice. :)

...then I looked at the date. List is still the same, although I'd now add Chad Johnson to the list.

I stand corrected. All that happened at the height of my MMORPG addiction, so I missed the details. In my mind though, the fact remains that if the 49ers felt he was done, he should have retired then, with grace.

There are players I hate, but no one who I wouldn't cheer for because of off field (not sucking)) reasons. I hate new Met Carlos Delgado, I'm disappointed to have him on the team, I'll still cheer for him. If there was a list, it would look like this:

Baseball - Clemens, Delgado, Al Leiter, John Franco, Kenny Rogers
Football - Mike Alstott, Roy Williams (The Safety)

Diego "Hand of God" Maradona.

He's finally gotten around to admitting he used his hand, only like, nearly 20 years later.

I can't stand this guy either. Mind you, I do still quite like the Argentinians (despite him).

Put it down to liking the Motorcyle Diaries

:gollum

Also, as I know little about baseball, I nominate Lleyton Hewitt as my most hated athlete....and I note he even made the American top 10 most hated in GQ magazine.
