You guys are just scared that Ridley is making a movie that the girls will be dragging you to see instead of vice-versa.
This is Ridley helping out Crowe by giving him a chance to make a "see, I'm a nice guy after all" sort of movie. With the recent bad press buried under a sea of fluffy sighs and warm, soft-focus, sunset scenes, Crowe will be able to get back to helping Ridley make the next Gladiator.

Hmm, true, although I'd venture to say that was the exception to the rule, and wasn't meant to be a comedy, in toto, on any level. You could make the point that Gladiator had some funny scenes in it as well, and probably the same for some of his other movies. Time will tell if he's got what it takes.

No, we want Ridley to do good at whatever he is doing. We're just hoping that he's CAPABLE of doing that. I mean, I wouldn't ask Mel Brooks to do a mega-blockbuster war movie. Or ask Clint Eastwood to do an American Pie sequel.
If this movie works out for Ridley and Crowe, thats what we all want. And it'll get them back to doing more films like Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, etc (just no more Kingdom of Heavens, please).

This isn't a comedy either thought. I think it's more of a drama with comedic elements.
It's a date movie. Ridley's made himself a date movie.

This movie was in the works long before any bad press of last year. It was a good change of pace with both of them coming off of difficult films that got very little in return for their massive efforts. Compared to that, this was a working holiday.
I consider Matchstick Men to be a comedy, if only for the silly and absurd plot line. But I do recall there being some very funny scenes.
