Rate/Discuss: Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. . .
Luke Skywalker has returned to his home planet of Tatooine in an attempt to rescue his friend Han Solo from the clutches of the vile gangster Jabba the Hutt. Little does Luke know that the GALACTIC EMPIRE has begun construction on a new armored space station even more powerful than the first dreaded Death Star. When completed, this ultimate weapon will spell certain doom for the small band of rebels struggling to restore freedom to the galaxy...
Directed by Richard Marquand
Starring Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Mark Hammil and Billy Dee Williams
Nominated for Best Art Direction, Best Sound, Best Original Score and Best Visual Effects
My favorite of the trilogy, therefore making it my favorite movie of all time. Just so much greatness. A fun, swashbuckling adventure of an opening, then it sobers up for an incredibly dramatic finale. Until Lord of the Rings, I don't think the Battle of Endor had been topped, and I'm still not sure it has been. And Vader's calling out of luck under the catwalks, the final saber duel, and Anakin's ultimate sacrifice are still so powerful. I swear that while Vader is standing there watching his son die you can see his emotions change on the mask.
I've decided Ian McDiarmid got shafted by not being nominated for best supporting actor.
Question: Does Bib Fortuna cary this movie or what?
More serious question: If Spielberg had been allowed to direct Jedi, how differently would it have turned out?

I like it alot. It used to be my favorite, and still is sometimes depending on my mood. Alot of people over look it because of the ewoks, but the ewoks weren't THAT big a part of the movie.
If Spielberg directed it, the special edition would have had the stormtroopers carrying walkie talkies instead of blasters.

Ewoks are genius. And I'm not even kidding. People bitch and bitch about how cutesy they are... but that's stupid.
They may be cute yah... but they are also vicious little killers who eat human flesh.
I seriously love them.
And love this movie. The stuff between Luke, Palpatine, and Vader is the darkest and most powerful stuff in the series... and the lightsaber fight is the best.
The only thing that keeps me from hating this more than TPM is the Luke/Vader fight at the end where Luke taps into the dark side. Everything else in this movie is garbage.
1. ****ING EWOKS
2. ****ING RATSO RIZZO MUPPET COCKSUCKER
3. Leia's hair
4. Max Rebo
5. The part where it sucks
6. Every other creature in Jabba's Palace
7-10. Numerous failed attempts at humor

My personal favorite as well. The final revelations. Jabba. The Battle at Endor. The final battle. Ewoks. Everything about this movie amazed me. Ian McDiarmid was badass. He really stole the movie. Much like he will with ROTS

Let us not forget the greatness of the GOLD BIKINI as well.
I mean really, even if you hate the ewoks, the adultness of the xxx gold bikini balances that out.
Me, I love the Ewoks as well, so it's like a xXx fuzz fest.

A better question would be how different would the movie be if DAVID ****ING LYNCH directed it like originally planned. Aside from about fifty yards of material added to the costumes of the elite gard .

What would have happened would have been DUNE and we'd all be saying right now that at least Phantom Menace wasn't as bad as Return of the Jedi.
Actually, we wouldn't be saying it because he'd have killed the franchise so badly the prequels would never have been made.

Spielberg was also a first choice, but wasn't allowed to direct it because of Lucas's contempt for the director's guild.
