Nicole Kidman is afraid of butterflys?

Quote:
Movie star Nicole Kidman has a bizarre fear of butterflies she can't overcome. The Cold Mountain actress developed the terrifying phobia when she was a child in Australia and despite endless attempts to shake off the problem, she still can't stand the pretty insects. She reveals, "Sometimes when I would come home from school the biggest butterfly or moth you'd ever seen would be just sitting on our front gate. I would climb over the fence, crawl around to the side of the house - anything to avoid having to go through the front gate. I have tried to get over it (the phobia) I walked into the big butterfly cage at the American Museum of Natural History and had the butterflies on me, but that didn't work. I jump out of planes, I could be covered in cockroaches, I do all sorts of things, but I just don't like the feel of butterflies' bodies."

That's almost as weird as aracabutraphobia (sp?)
The fear of having peanutbutter stuck to the roof of your mouth.
I guess that's why she was the girl in Batman. If it had been Butterflydude she would've said "no way, Jose."

Although they are in the same catagory I wouldn't put a moth in the same league as a butterfly. Now that right there is one scary insect.
: shudder :

What was the freaky movie with the giant moth? What is that scary legend about the moth? Or am I thinking of the same thing??

If we have learned anything about me today is that Moth's scare me. So do moth balls. That doesn't sound right!!

Huntsman spiders are pretty scary, and big enough to see their knackers surely.

But butterflies? No way. Moths? Maybe. Do you know that vampires can take the shape of a moth, along with bats or wolves?

OMG, just found this!!!

What is wrong with butterflies? And to be honest, how often do you actually come into contact with them?

Come on Nicole, surely Tom was more scary?!

...bump from the past. Nothing constructive to add, but those walk-in butterfly enclosures kick ass. Incidentally, the only two I've ever been to were both in Australia...

Let's never speak of the huntsman spiders ever. ever. again. I'd rather french kiss an inland taipan than *SEE* one of those huntsmans.
