Fave TV talk show hosts / moments

Ok, I can do a list this time, I hope.

Hopefully no-one will mention Jerry Springer

Top 5

1. Parkie

2. Ruby Wax

3. Graham Norton

4. David Letterman

5. Ricky Lake

Worst

1. Larry King (without a doubt)

2. Jerry Springer

3. Oprah ("I'm here with Bar - Bra Steeiiii - saaaaaannnd!")

I don't know who the first two are, I've vaguely heard of Norton, and Ricky Lake is a little surprising. No Johnny Carson?

My list:
1. Johnny Carson
2. David Letterman

3. Everyone else.

Never seen a Johnny Carson show, or Jay Leno for eg, although I guess Leno is kind of similar format to Letterman.

The first two on my list are UK based, although Ruby Wax is an American.

Actually, I don't know why I mentioned Graham Norton, I think it's the content rather than him personally.

Is Ricky Lake still going?

Leno and Letterman are actually pretty different. Leno is more about the geusts whereas Letterman is more about the jokes, bits, skits, stunts and sketches, stuff like that. Leno's monologues and sketches tend to be tamer than Letterman's, too. Much the same way Johnny was (not to say that Leno can hold a candle to Carson). Makes sense since Leno is Carson's successor and Letterman has his own show.

And I don't know about Lake. I've only seen her show a couple times, back when I was little. Not something I want to see again.

She was on "Hairspray" I think, along with Debbie Harry.

Can't think of any Australian talk show hosts i like, they're too busy trying to outsmartass their guests. The Panel is ok.

Parkinson really let's the guest have full rein which is what I like, and usually has comedians on. He couldn't get a word in edgewise when Robin Williams was on.

That was Carson's hall mark. The guests ran the interview, he just listened and prompted.

I forgot to list my least favorite.

1. Conan O'Brien
2. John Stewart (better than Brien because he can be funny sometimes)
3. Craig Ferguson (yeah, he's already made me hate him)
4. Jay Mohr

Oh, and put Tony Kornheiser up on my favorites list, too.

Jay Leno's monologues are way better than Letterman's as of late.

Leno's monologues are still pretty long, whereas Letterman's are like 2 minutes.

Hey, I forgot about Arsenio Hall, he wasn't bad come to think of it.

And Julian Clary was a bit of a riot.

OK, I have heard of Conan O'Brien but couldn't actually tell you what he looks like. I'm assuming, WK, that he doesn't really look like Arnie in the movie Conan the Destroyer.

Bordick: "Conan the BARBARIAN"
And now I know where that came from.

I remember years ago there was a UK talk show host called Dave Allan. All I can recall was that he'd be sitting in an armchair with a glass of scotch and he'd be smoking. Imagine that now!

That used to be Carson.
He cut the smoking out and switched to coffee eventually.

He should have switched to de-caf lattes (not).

Didn't Roseanne Barr also have a chat show? We were thinking of seeing her when she came to Melbourne, but it was cancelled thru lack of ticket sales.

I think she did, but I wouldn't watch it. Never watch those female, day time talk shows.
'Course, I don't watch many talk shows. I love the idea and the basic format, but it's rarely done right. As far as the late night shows go, I grew up on Carson, I like Leno and I watch Letterman almost every night. I don't eve GET O'Brien, no one on the Late Late show has ever made me laugh, and just about everyone else sucks, too.

What's O'Brien's gimmick / angle? If he's on late, it's probably adult oriented type jokes.
