I would almost bet money this doesn't end up happening.
Shortly after 9/11 there were many "projects" being talked about, including a drama about a 9/11 survivor for television, but none of them happened. I think we'll find this is wave 2, but it'll still be talk.

I might be wrong, but I think that's more or less wht the show Rescue Me is about. I've only heard good things about the show so I guess sometimes it can work out.
I have no real interest in seeing this or any movie focusing on 9/11 though. I think the events could make an interesting backdrop for a movie, but having them as the focal point just seems... meh.

Paramount should have held out for Steven Spielberg, or heck, I’d even take McG. He’d turn it into Die Hard, but at least the guy knows how to be patriotic.

yeah, I agree with that.
It was used tastefully and effectively in 25th Hour.

No, that's more of a small backdrop to the show. Leary's character's Ladder went through 911, and people he was related to that were firefighter's were killed in it, but it by no means is a focal point for any of the story. And the parts that do get into it the least bit, are patriotic (in the shows own way).

Agreed. I happen to think Rescue Me is a fantastic show.
same goes for csi:ny. gary sinise's character had a wife who died in the 9/11 attacks. the subject comes up now and then, when exploring his character, but it isn't an integral component of the show.
Would you really want to see Spielberg do this? I wouldn't want the tragedy turned in to a story about how people need to love and be loved and the importance of father figures. Spielberg's a great technical director and he used to be a great storyteller, but he isn't anymore.
Up to Fifty Million people are thought to have died due to the Second World War. Easily the most bloody period in human history and yet that hasn't stopped the film industry from making hundreds of inferior quality movies that delighted in showing death for the sake of box office returns. Actors made their entire careers through such movies.
Why should another bloody event of human history be spared the same treatment?
I'm not saying I think this movie should be made. I don't think it should be made and I certainly don't think Oliver Stone would be the best choice to make it. But Hollywood has never been squeamish about exploiting human suffering for box office returns, there was no reason to expect that September 11th would avoid the same treatment.
I'm just saying don't be surprised that the film industry is attempting to exploit the September 11th tragedy.
Going by the film industries track record it was inevitable that they would eventually make a movie of the event. The only question in my mind was who would dare break the taboo first. Looks like it's Oliver Stone.
However good, bad, factual or fictional the movie is, expect others to follow his lead.
It's up to people to decide for themselves whether they want to see such movies. Personally I don't want to see a fictional or a based-on-a-true-story film.

So reporting the news and doing their job is now "cashing in".
Okkaaaaay.
I don't care whether they give money to charity or not. There's far too much charity giving going on around this country. Where the money goes doesn't justify your actions.
