Right now I see enough terrorism on the news, to want to watch it on the big screen as well. I like diversity, you see.
For me, movies are for relaxation, being away from the real world for a couple of hours.
Maybe that's why I like SF and Fantasy films so much?

But V for Vendetta and Aeon Flux ARE Sci-Fi Fantasy films. And the type of terrorism in them isn't really the type you're seeing on the news.
Remember the actions people took after the 911 attacks? Spider-Man was coming out, and people wanted to make sure all shots of the World Trade Center were removed. After the Colombine shootings, an episode of Buffy was pushed back because it featured a guy on campus with a gun (Jonathan). I think people don't want further reminders of what's going on in their world right then. It brings back too many of the painful memories and images they were bombarded with.

Yeah, but we're quite a bit distanced from 9/11 and terrorism has become more of a norm in our world. You don't think we're a little better able to handle it? And would this really affect a movie like V for Vendetta?
It's a fantasy movie after all.
Steven Spielberg's movie about the Munich Olympics I could see this attitude being more applicable to.
I could see V for Vendetta taking an absolute murdering in a lot of particularly slanted newspapers and TV shows once it gets close to it's release date.

Anything featuring terrorist-like attacks on any known landmark is going to draw fire for it. The question will be whether the nature of the attack triggers a correlation to something that did or might happen and thereby elicit feelings of offense.
I think Aeon Flux is safe.
V for Vendetta has bigger hurdles to overcome than any terrorism connection though. Specifically, being attached to the Wachowski sisters brothers.

I think both will be fine, since Aeon Flux is really a scifi movie, and what they're dealing with doesn't correlate with what we're dealing with on any level.
As for V for Vendetta, the original graphic novel was written in the 1980's, and it's really dealing with the what-ifs of a Nazi Europe/Britain. I think they'll get some loudmouths yapping about the movie, as Josh said, but overall, I think it'll get a pass.
Probably the smartest thing for the people involved in the movies would be TO SHUT THE HELL UP. Talk about how great the movie is, but don't talk about anything like terrorism or world events. Don't give anyone extra ammo that isn't there, to bash the film with. And we all know H-wood types aren't the ones to NOT babble. That's my greatest fear.
Most of the hate for the 9/11 movie has died down, so I don't think these movies should have no problem, there not based on actual events. V for Vendetta remines me of Zorro just more violent.
It does kinda feel like a darker version of Zorro, Gunblazer.
I don't think the issues that surround 9/11 have died down, or will die down anytime soon- as evidenced by the backlash that Oliver Stone got when he announced his 9/11 movie. Or, ask the WWE about Mohammed Hassan, recently. But V and Aeon won't get hit with it since they aren't even tangenitally attached to 9/11 or modern terrorism.
I know the issues sorrunding 9/11 haven't died down but the backlash for the movie seems to have faded a little. I've seen reports of cast additions, but have heard no talk of protest or maybe I'm just not watching enuff news.

Yeah, I was really curious as to what some of you Brits would think, since this hits closest to home for you right now and V IS about bombing London.
Originally posted by Deus Ex Machina Yup that giant sucking sound you hear is Oliver Stone's credibility and career as a director being completely drained down the toilet.
Movie-maker Joel Silver is treading carefully as he oversees the editing of Natalie Portman's new movie V For Vendetta because he doesn't want to upset Londoners still reeling from terrorist attacks when the film comes out.
The Matrix producer was given special permission to use London tourist attractions to film futuristic terrorist attacks in the film, and he had no idea fiction would become fact when bombers brought the city to a standstill earlier this month.
He says, "When you make a movie that directly relates to something like that you've got to be very very careful. But this is a fictional story. It's smart and the good guys win."
