I saw the trailer for this on The Constant Gardener DVD. It looks pretty good.

Haven't seen Brick, but Joseph Gordon-Levitt was pretty, darn good in The Mysterious Skin. Unlike Legolas, this "girly man" can act.

In order to find his girlfriend who vanished, Brendon must gain acceptance by the Pin. Stand up and protect the ones you want the most.. Interesting use of words in this movie, couple of drug dealing and fist fights. All character roles were well played. Director at Q&A mentioned it took him 6 years to create, and now is working on a different future project. Great movie 4/5

Yeah, he was great in that. I can't wait to see what he does in this one.

No doubt this will be a love it or hate it kind of flick. I could see it finding a pretty solid niche of fans. I just won't be counted as one of them.

Well, you dimmed my excitement a LITTLE. I was on high to see it after Stefan told me it's the best movie he's seen this year.

So now I'm back down to just "I hope I get a chance to see it" instead of "dying to see it".

It's got a 70% fresh rating at RT right now though, so it doesn't seem like most of the press shares the opinion of the group you were in there with.

Probably a good thing. Then you might go in and enjoy it Hype kills.

Plus, saying something is the best thing this year, at this point, ain't saying jack. Lousy start for movies.

True, but its average rating is 6.4/10. That is not exactly a unanimous rave.

I didn't like it, but I am fairly certain that other people on the boards will. It's just a shame because I looove noirs and this one didn't cut it for me.

How'd you like Miller's Crossing Lexi? It seems to be getting the same sorta response that it did on its first run. Same kinda critism too.

Personally I love the Crossing, so it its like that more power to it.

Haven't seen it, but definitely plan on it. I generally like Coens movies (minus their last few heinous offerings).

Reason why I was asking is that the critism seems to be the same, people are/where complaing that its was more the synthesis of Gangster and PI films then an original one. Didn't bother me then, doubt it'll bother me now.

Did you at least like Pin? I heard he sorta steals the film.

You can't go by average ratings on RT really... they are ALWAYS low. At least that's what I've noticed.

Nah, Brokeback and Capote are both in the low 80s. Just depends.

And yeah, the Pin was pretty cool. Probably the most interesting guy in the lot. The most annoying was Tugger, who did literally nothing but lunge at everyone around, fists flying.

Yeah, but that means two of the best reviewed movies of the year only get a B rating if you go by the RT average.

Oh I agree that RT ratings are skewed, but I've seen a lot higher than 6.4 even from lesser known movies.

My point is I think it will be the type of movie that is split, not obsessively loved down the line. There are some things I can't stand that everyone else likes, but I doubt this will be one of them.
