V for Vendetta

Just finished reading it.

Dated, but interesting and complex.

So, if you've read it, please tell me....

Who the heck is V? Or is that never actually revealed?

I added it to my amazon list a while back, I do know it's rooted heavily in early 80s UK politics though which might alienate a lot of people.

If it is, then I didn't notice.

It's set in a future where the current UK government doesn't even exist Tay.

I didn't quite phrase it right; it was Allan Moore's view of an alternate reality to Margaret Thatcher's time in office.

Quote:
Moore began his story in 1982, picturing a future that was around the corner and setting his tale in then late 1990s in a Britain that had become a fascist state. Moore worked from the assumption that in 1983 the Conservatives would lose the elections and that the Labour Party would remove American missiles from the British Isles, which meant that England would no longer be a target during a nuclear war. In the post-holocaust Britain of the 1990s, Moore posited a Fascist takeover.

It never is revealed who V is. He England.

To be less metaphorical, he was either a political Dissadent or a normal gay man until the expirements ****ed him up.

It's never revealed to the audience who he is... but his girl sidekick sees his face... and then smiles. A HUGE, slightly manic smile.

Which must mean that he's not just some random gay guy or dissident.

At least you'd think so.

Actually, that bits a little confusing, because while she's thinking about going and taking his mask off, they keep flashing to panels showing a man's face under the mask. I assume that's just her guess of who is under it, as she's trying to figure out whether or not to take the mask off... but it's a little confusing.

Did she take the mask off?

I thought she followed his orders and left it on.

I thought you hadn't read it?

1. He never tells her not to take it off. In fact he tells her she WILL take it off. But then he says she'll soon forget or something like that which doesn't make much sense.

2. Yes she takes it off.
