I saw it before Goblet. The trailer didn't look too great, but it is intriguing.
When the title appeared I wondered if they were redoing Splash. Then the Shyamalamdingdong thing came up and they cut back to Paul Giamati for a moment.

I loved the trailer. Shocked the hell out of me to see it.
Definitely has a different feel from his other work, and the idea of it being a "bedtime story" makes me think he won't go for some sort of suspense/twist angle. That is a good thing!
Looking forward to this. Let's all hope The Village was just a fluke.

Hey Brain, whadda we gonna do tonight?
I hope to god it's just a typo. Otherwise that's just. . .unfortunate naming. A Narf?? Do these people just not think these things through?
saw the trailer, knew nothing about this. I just thought it was another Giamatti sulky lonesome dude flick...which seemed cool in and of itself...I was down...all interested....then out popped the Shyamalan credit and it was like "Damn it, knew there'd be a catch".
Revitalizing this thread, cuz, hey, movie's on its way.
I haven't heard much about what this movie will actually be about, though I've seen tons of commercials and they intrigue me, but I can't get a grasp of what the 2 hr long story line will be. Although one thing I have noticed is that what tiny bit (I think) I understand about the plot makes me realize that title itself and all the previous marketing has been a little bit of misdirection- from the images I've seen earlier, like the movie poster and the previews, my initital thought was that the lady in the water would be the scary thing. But, nope, apparently I was way off.
That seems very M. Night to me, and I'm not surprised that my initial impressions were off. I'm still not sure how the movie will pan out- fairy tales and adults don't often mix- but I think Shamalan is the director for it, since he can bring out the Grimm-like creepiness and whatnot.
I saw a trailer for this today, thought it looked dreadful.
Still, at least my local cinema has actually gone back to showing trailers for films which haven't arrived yet - the other day they had a trailer for Poseidon, which has been and gone!
It really is a bedtime story, only a true one...sort of.
Definitely has all of Shyamalan's trademark fright moments and incredible cinematography, but he's not quite so hung up on the big reveal.
People will either of love it or hate it, but not along the same lines as The Village. It will be those who like his bedtime story brought to life and those who don't. Simple as that.
There's a special little jab at movie critics in there as well which is absolutely hilarious.
Giamatti is great. It's a whole cast of mostly unknowns who do a wonderful job.
Easily Shyamalan's best since Unbreakable.

Ah, yes. The jab at movie critics. What every director who makes a horrible movie does. How original. :\
Let's blame the critics for The Village. Nice job M. Night.
I really don't get the feeling he was trying to exact some kind of revenge for lashback against the Village. The jab is part of a character who actually spends most of his time making fun of derivative filmmaking. At first I thought M. Night might be wagging his finger at critics but he went further with it, making good on the character's humor. I thought it was pretty classic.

With 8 reviews in, Lady in the Water has a 13% at Rottentomatoes.
AICN is running two positive reviews for it... but even those are composed mainly of a list of excuses for why what is probably a bad movie might be considered by one or two people to be good.
Now I'm REALLY curious to see what Scott will write.
Basically, I'm the other way around from what it sounds like others are doing. I'm not going to make excuses for it. I think its good but up to the audience to let themselves enjoy it.
