Had some ups--Antonio Banderas, the dance scene that woke the kids up, the PTA meeting, the tango threesome; and some downs--Rob Brown "dancing", morbidly obese kids "dancing", wanted more of Banderas dancing, but mostly the several unlikely aspects of the last 20 minutes. 6/10
Director was there mentioned most was filmed in NY, but some in Toronto.
Although I perfer school of rock, we've seen alot of music/dancing style movies. Bandares and most characters played their role well (particularly liked how he disciplined them). Also a plus was how the movie showed an interesting culture for upper harlem kids. Some of them try their best to support their families. Listening and dancing to hip hop, while Bandares tried to broaden their horizons with a new style of music "Ballroom dancing and tango". On a minus I still felt some part were incomplete (more emphasis "and follows ups especially for the car scene, the kids brother and the especially the ending. Final part could have shown a winner and more discussions. Ok movie 2.0/5

No love for letting the fat kids try?
Yeah, the ending moments were fairly unlikely, but at least the way the tango threesome was treated was realistic. No real judge would throw out the rule book in favor of something that crazy. I really expected that to be the route the movie would take. When it didn't I was rather pleased.

I was embarassed for the fat kids and the ones they were dancing with, or would have been embarassed in real life; especially at the straight-jacketed cotillion dubutante coming out ball thingy. But hey, ain't nothing wrong with trying, at least they'd loose some weight in the effort.
The threesome was great, but the 20 second planning/rehersal in their heads was just one of the unlikely elements. Like I said, I wanted more Banderas or his double. I did notice they avoided the quick step unlike Richard Gere in Shall We Dance.

Hmmm. So only skinny, attractive people should be allowed to dance?
I thought the cotillion ball thingy was kind of sweet. Seems to me it was more important that they were overcoming the race card than the ever-devisive weight card.

Not nuthin' 'bout 'lowed. We each have talents and abilities as well as limits and faults. We should pursue the former with energy and avoid the latter with grace. Of course if a dancer were to be trapped in a fat body, the solution is obvious--no more Big Macs. (Where's a fat smilie when you need one? Or are they all fat?)

OK I found one.
I see what you mean, but that all feels a little harsh. After all, these aren't supposed to be Broadway-bound stars, but high schoolers trying to get through detention. Sometimes large kids end up in detention too.

Yeah, I know and I do sympathize, 'cause you just don't know for sure if fat is the result or the cause of low self-esteem. Maybe instead of detention, boot camp would be appropriate.
Take the Lead was great! I really liked the tango threesome. The hip hop music in that thing was sweet. I like that "Whuteva" song and the song at the beginning that was mixed with "I've Got Rythym."
