This sounds like one of the more promising pilots to be airing this season.
Quote:
Jericho is an hour-long future based drama series about what happens when a nuclear mushroom cloud suddenly appears on the horizon, plunging the residents of a small, peaceful Kansas town into chaos, leaving them completely isolated and wondering if they're the only Americans left alive. Fear of the unknown propels Jericho into social, psychological and physical mayhem when all communication and power is shut down. The town starts to come apart at the seams as terror, anger and confusion bring out the very worst in some residents. But in this time of crisis, as sensible people become paranoid, personal agendas take over and well-kept secrets threaten to be revealed, some people will find an inner strength they never knew they had and the most unlikely heroes will emerge.
Jericho premieres Wednesday, September 20th at 8:00 EST. Check it out and then post back here if you like it!
I watched the pilot and wrote a review a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if the review is still on my computer.
Anyways, the pilot shows promise. The only good actor is Skeet Ulrich, but he definitely can pull any series long. It almost seems like it belongs on the WB, though. Hopefully the next episodes get rid of the little bit of corniness.
I'm definitely excited about this show - seems like the kind of long arc driven show that is always my favorite. (And I am not ashamed - I have kinda had a thing for Skeet Ulrich since Scream.) Looks like it will be something worth coming back to every week.
Can someone tell me what they thought about the pilot in a kind of spoiler free way? I haven't decided yet if I want to find out anything solid about before it airs.
Saw a trailer for it tonight before Idiocracy of all things.
It actually does look really good. I love post-apocalyptic drama... but aside from The Stand it's never worked quite right on TV.
This looks REALLY cool. Very hyped to see it now.
I saw a promo trailer/preview thing on the CBS site, and it really does look *awesome*, to me...reminds me of this book from years and years ago called Alas, Babylon, which of course I've forgotten the ending to, now, so I'll have to reread it...does anyone know that one? I think it's going to be really interesting, too, for the human aspect, like, what will these people do now, and what will their interactions look like, if they are so isolated? (And naturally I'm curious as to what caused that mushroom cloud in the trailer....)
yeah its on my maybe list. It wasnt as bad as i thought it would be but I dont feel much of an urge to watch more. We'll see.

I really liked it - I thought there were definitely some very intense scenes (the kid listening to his parents on the answering machine, him telling everyone that they'd been in Atlanta, not Denver.)I want to know who that guy from St. Louis who seems so calm is, as well as the bigger, more obvious questions of what other cities got hit, and how many other survivors there might be, and where they are, that kind of thing. How will the town handle all of this as it goes on?
I think this show can go good places (and they set up a lot of good potential story and character stuff stuff in this one.) I'll be tuning back in next week.
I like the the plot. Achieved the goal of keeping us viewers in their shoes of not knowing who struck. ICBMs? Terrorists? I I feel it was a synchronized terrorist attack based on the fact that they were wathing live coverage of a Congressional assembly before the cable went out caused by the exposion. By all means I am not a nuclear strategist but it is safe to assume that if it was the result of foreigh hostility through ICBMs there wouldn't be high ranking govt officials assembled in that way...more then likely burrowed in a mountian somewhere as they would have been alerted before those ICBMs where launched.
I was hoping for a movie or drama series about a nuclear attack for a long time. The only one really that exists is "the day after". There are so many about alien invasions and natural disasters that threaten humanity, but none about our greatest, I think, dormant threat as there are so many nukes in the hands of so many that can end mankind from a simple computer error or such.
i really liked it. this would make a good miniseries or one season show but i dont see how they can stretch it beyond that. definately one of the better lost clones to come out.

well, I thought there was no way that it'd still be interesting to watch people stuck on an island for more than one season, but I love Lost. And I didn't think Prison Break would work once they weren't in prison anymore but that is still excellent as well. I have some faith in Jericho, I think they could do a lot with the societal aspects of it that would keep it interesting and viable beyond the "what caused the explosion" mystery. (The what will happen to them if they have to like recreate society, or can't leave because of radiation or something angle.)
Speaking of that, does anyone else think that maybe "coordinated attack" is too easy an answer? I don't know what else it could be, exactly, but I'm sure there could be something, in terms of the bigger mystery?

Great response. I think the fact that Congress was assembled gave the terrorist atack theory some weight, but you are right it could be something else. Although something like hostile manipulation of monitoring systems allowing ICBMs to stealthfully impact may be beyond the scope of the producers, but like I said Im in no way a nuclear strategist and I can admitt there can be many other things I do not know about that could have happened. We'll just have to do what the producers intend for us to do,,,that is to watch and wait until it all unfolds.
My ghetto DVR insists on recording WITHOUT A TRACE instead of what I tell it to record, even though I've never once watched WITHOUT A TRACE and never will.
