Die Hard 4.0 (Live Free or Die Hard) (spoilers...beware!)
Well, I couldn't find no topic about the upcoming Die Hard instalment, so I created one...I hope I did it right, it's my first topic.
You people are probably aware that on the 4th of July, a new Die Hard movie will be released?
The question is, what do you want to see in it?
I'd like to see some action, but some realistic one (like in the first movie), some humor, the same John McClane character, the same spirit than in the previous movies...
Judging by the teaser, I'm afraid this will be too 'national hero style' for me...John McClane will be divorced, so he'll fight for his country, not for his wife, that's why I fear this movie will be too patriotic for me.
But the glimpses of action in the teaser looked great, but I wonder how they'll be introduced, since John is supposed to fight hackers, not armed terrorists (wait, maybe the bad guys are both?)
Movie ****ing rocked... Plain and Simple. I missed his filthy mouth, but that's about it... Action was amazing, Willis was amazing... Hell, I didn't even mind that girly man. Probobly my favorite PG-13 action flick.
I completely agree with Josh's review. Die Hard 4 is your same old Die Hard, minus a few curses and some extra blood. But they never lose sight of what's important for the movie, and they deliver some of the best action sequences all year. And they give us vintage Bruce Willis, which I've sorely missed the past few years.
The actual terrorist plot in the movie was well executed (although frankly there are easier and less obtuse ways to steal alot of money and get away with it), and it's something that our national security apparatuses have been working on. The scene where they initiate Phase 1 and 2 of the "fire sale" were brilliant, and probably some of the best evil bad guy plotlines that we've seen in a Die Hard movie. As an asides I do like that the police and government agencies didn't work against McClane for once (the F-22 fight asides). It was nice seeing the Bowman not be a total f*cktard, and instead, be what McClane would be like if he had gone for that kind of a job.
As Josh said, the chemistry between Long and Willis was definitely there, and I really wish I was in Long's shoes. He's basically writing his ticket to movie stardom (although in a very unorthodox way). He worked very well as the hacker who has no idea what he's doing standing near McClane. The bad guys were definitely nondescript, but they were good for what they were (no one's missing Alan Rickman or Jeremey Irons). At leaest they did get some good one liners in there, so it's not like they were just a waste of space.
And then there's the action. The balls-to-the-wall action. If I ever meet Len Weisman, I want to personally kiss his feet for singlehandedly (well ok, he had help) bringing back kickass action. From the moment that we first see McClane get into a gunfight, you new that Die Hard was back. That's how tight the action is- and how it never lets you go. Yes, there are moments when you'll be thinking "you gotta be shitting me" but then again, if you're a Die Hard fan, that's how all the movies are.
I went in expecting to see an ok movie, with maybe a few good action scenes. I also went in expecting to see a neutered Die Hard movie. I left feeling that a PG-13 Die Hard movie could hold it's own with the best of Bruce Willis' movie list. Now the question must be asked: do they dare do a Die Hard 5?
Because the script is so intent on being hip with modern technology, a good portion of the film’s most evil moments are spent watching bad guys type furiously at computers. Luckily it’s not long before the not so technologically savvy McClane picks up a laptop and uses it to bash someone over the head.

Well, I'm completely and totally surprised. I expected a neutered John McClane. Instead, it's just the same old John calling people "jerk-off" and "dickweed". I think it's hilarious that they can get away with one f-bomb in a PG-13 movie and they still covered it up, but it was done well enough I didn't care. I still found myself giddy and gleeful through half of McClane's antics.
Fantastic - the surprise of the summer: Live Free or Die Hard is actually a solid action flick.
JOHN MCCLANE: Johnson?.....(under his breathe) Jesus.
Nice little touch for fans of the orginal. So much for pretending the others don't exist.
When the power was being cut and they showed a shot of the airport shutting down, being that this flick was based mostly around the DC area, I was begging for a Fred Dalton Thompson or Dennis Franz cameos....then again, I'm just a geek.
Overall I thought it was really good. Sure I would've loved unlimited f-bombs.......the Maggie Q fight begged for at least 4. But other than that, I dug it.
I wouldn't call it PG-13 as hell, frankly I think they went out of their way to get as absolutely close to the PG-13 edge as they could. Wiseman edited it as close as he possibly could.
Having seen it, I sort of believe what Willis said about it back when he first bitched about it being PG-13. I think they shot it with the intention of it being an R-rated movie... then after it was in the can and Wiseman was in the editing room the studio stuck it's nose in and forced him to cut it PG-13... so he got as close to the edge as he possibly could with it and because of that it works.
John McClane is back as the best action star ever. Great ACTION movie. Some little things were preposterous, and I wasn't sure why Spider-man was a bad guy in the film, , but still great!
I don't even remember the plot because things got all blowy-uppy and there were bad guys getting the shit beat out of them (although not as much as Bruce Willis gets beat out of him but that's okay because, dude, DIE HARD MOVIE. He's SUPPOSED to hurt!)
I'm still all in overload from this movie, but DAMN.
