Brad Bird is back after conquering the world with The Incredibles...will this reach those lofty heights?

"Did you ever hear about my great great grandfather? He was a gladiator in Rome. Caesar hated him. He dug a hole in the coluseum and buried my great-great grandfather up to his neck. And Caesar got the meanest lion in all of Rome. Then he starved him to death and let him out at a big gathering. The Lion pounced and as he went to bite, my grandfather ducked and bit the lion's balls right off. Then he spit them at Julius Caesar. Caesar turned and said, "Fight fair Knievel. Fight fair." -Evel Knievel.
He wasn't the original director so we'll have to see how much impact he had coming in to save it. I'll be there to see it though. Pixar hasn't failed me yet.

Yeah, Bird's in a good position here.
If it sucks, probably nobody is going to blame him.
I *love* Pixar, and I think Brad Bird's past stuff has been outstanding. Therefore I totally think that this movie is going to rock. Plus that is the cutest rat I have ever seen.
There's a nine minute preview that Disney released that's really good. Gives you a better idea of the story. And the animation - especially of the rat running - looks amaaaaaaazing!
I am excited about this movie! hence the dancing elephant! I heard pixar thinks this is there best yet and that says something to me! Rats get a bad rep, I mean some people blame them for the plague, but I think this movie will totally help their image!
I work at a local newspaper... this film reminds me that, many years ago, we had a story about people eating some kind of dish including rats as a key ingredient. (Don't ask). I wanted to make the headline "Ratatouille" - but a colleague instead thought of "Egon Rodent"!
I like the sound of the movie - but I'm not sure when it is being released on my side of the pond.
I can't comment on Rafe's review, I've been informed that if I even say the words "good" or "bad" in conjunction with Ratatouille, I'll be banned from all Disney press events, permanently... even though the movie was opened to the public this weekend.
And I'm sure they won't like Rafe's review being up, but **** the pigs man.
I agree with Rafe's review. The animation is spectacular. In one opening for a street scene, I thought they'd snuck in some live footage.
The rat is inevitably endearing even though they actually make him act rat-like without slipping in some canine manerisms like donkey in Shreck.
Comparisons to The Incredibles are inevitable, but other than the quality of the animation, I think the only comparison is having a theme; family then, and in this case, integrity as it is represented by the three main protagonists, the chef, the critic and the hero. (Linguine is little more than a living robot.) It's a theme that's well presented and can be appreciated by children and adults alike.
The movie doesn't really come together until the end which more than justified everything that prededed it, making you want to rehash what you saw, and, of course, see it again.
I saw Ratatouille last night...I absolutely adored it. I thought it was *really* good - with a sweet story and charming characters. I *loved* the ending to itty bitty pieces (especially the film critic, who was one of the highlights), and it does an admirable job of tying up a lot of the characters and plots together. Loved the humor and the voicework all around. And I especially loved Remy who is adorable and such a likeable (and even flawed!) hero.
The animation is just stunning. Some of the shots of Paris are so detailed, they look almost real (actually this movie does a great job of capturing the atmosphere of Paris, which I thought was neat.) I was also particularly impressed by all the scenes of large groups of rats moving, it was so well done. And basically every scene of Remy was incredible. Hands down best animated feature, I don't think anything is going to be able to top this.
Cannot recommend it highly enough! I think I need to see it again.
Can animated movies be nominated for Best Picture? Or only Best Animated Film? Because Ratatouille, animated or not is one of the best movie's so far this year.
