Agreed. It's a lot of fun, but more of a popcorn flick than the next Spiderman.
Josh hits it on the head in his review...the further into the movie you get, the flatter and less interesting Stark becomes. Kind of disappointing in that regard, but Favreau makes up for it with tons of action.

You had a screening and you didn't offer to review it?
Ah you knew I'd do it. Hehe.

Yeah, and it's strange because the opposite should be true. The character should actually become MORE interesting because he's becoming more complex. But somehow, when he's a carefree playboy at the beginning he seems more complex than he does at the end when he's a morally conflicted character trying to fix things he got wrong.
Kara's going to be ticked. We took bets on whether or not there would be something at the end and I made her wait all the way through. There wasn't anything at the end of our screening.

I liked it. I would say it's on a par with the first two Spider Man movies.
I liked the backstory and the buildup...with comics as a kid origin stories were always my favorite, and this was a decent one.
Good effects, the CGI didn't seem too intrusive, loved the scene where he rescues the hostages...very powerful. The showdown with Bridges character seemed a bit...meh. Standard one-on-one stuff, always seems a bit anti-climactic after what has gone before.
But I did like Bridges performance, quite menacing and different to his usual schtick.
Downey was good too, and interesting choice for the role - better than than some non-descript pretty boy or muscleman.
Just kind of random thoughts, things that have stayed with me since I just saw it I guess.

I'm glad I opted not to stay since I would probably have been in the same boat.
