It isn't terrible, though the first half of it was horribly boring and I nearly shut it off.
But then the Cylons started killing everyone and it actually got kinda interesting.
And I dig the ships and the way they do outerspace. Looks like models being dragged around the screen! I love it.
The new Starbuck... did they ever actually call her Starbuck??? I hate that they hardly ever call the characters by their callsigns. Very annoying.
Did anyone notice that Jolly was in the group of fighters that were slaughtered in the first wave? Poor Jolly.
But I am confused about this storyline.
Someone explain to me what is going on. Here is my best guess, tell me if I'm right or not.
There are these 12 colonies. The Battlestar Galactica is just one of many battlestars in their fleet, and one of the oldest. It is about to be retired and turned into a museum.
The humans have fought the Cyclons in the past, and apparently won. They even have a museum in a Cyclon base star, complete with the clunky old cyclons from the old show on display.
But the Cylons are still lurking out there someone, and devise a plan to wipe out the colonies, and thus attack.
I really think I could have liked it more if it wasn't called "Battlestar Galactica". It would have been much more interesting as an original story, I think.
And the first hour was absolutely horrible. Amazing how Hobbit and I think so much alike on so many levels.
I'll have to catch episode 2 later to see if I still agree.
Now was Apollo always Adama's son? I don't remember from the original show. I like though they had the girl Starbuck smoking a short stogey in honor of the old Starbuck!
New show is much better than the original. Had a nice epic feel to it, plus a level of realism that just clicks. Actors and actresses filled into their roles nicely, after a few bumps in the road. The script just got better and better. And the CGI effects kicked ass, especially that huge firefight towards the end of Part 2.
Me want to see them spin this off into a new series!
i think that was it. But I assume they have already filmed more episodes in preparation for the tv show run.
Looking at the serious lack of big name actors barring one, and hes not the biggest name around, they wouldnt have a problem keeping that cast intact if they want to do this...
[QUOTE]Originally posted by FilmHobbit Saw most of Part 2 last night. Mini series seems to get better as it goes. VERY COOL.
How many episodes of this mini-series are there?
Two episodes in this miniseries, so far. There probably will be more to come. I don't care if they do this in multiple miniseries offerings, or a tv series. JUST GIVE ME MORE!!!!
Anyway... yeah, I LOVE the effects too Faf. Very... raw looking? I love that. It doesn't look OVER GLOSSED like the stuff in the new Star Wars movies.
Spot on, Hobs, spot on. The only problem I have is that after all these years.....the Vipers just don't cut it anymore. After watching the Jedi Starfighter, the EarthForce Starfuries, anything in Weber's Honor Harrington, TIE Fighter, Homeworld, etc...the Vipers just look like ass. But the feel of the effects is definitely nice.
I also love how they keep pulling back for the EXTREME WIDE SHOTS. For once a sci-fi show that actually "gets" how BIG the distances are in space.
I loved how they kept showing us extreme wide shots for missile barrages, how many there really were, and the distances involved. We've seen the "Michael Bay just wanted to do a CGI camerashot of the bomb falling into the USS Arizona" one too many times.
Only I just wish that the Galactica could have had some support vessels (in anything I would write...they would. And fleet actions are rather gigantic. It would make Wolf 359 look like child's play).

Damnit, I'm a geek, entitled to my freedom to geek speech rights!
And the only thing is, Rob Zombie would probably end up hanging out with me in my room, watching anime and wrestling.
But yeah I have a serious thing for large scale, space fleet engagements. I love it.
Faf, have you ever played the game Homeworld for PC?
I got Homeworld 2 for free at work. But ask me that question again when the college semester ends!

God Hobbits Been Hostile Lately.
Don't insult Star Trek when he's around, I got a feeling his wallpaper is just a big heart with and arrow through it with J.T. + RM 4eva
I've got Homeworld. I've not played it for a while but I keep getting my ass handed to me by the psychotic cult shortly after meeting the Benthusi (sp?)

Faf, I have Homeworld and Homeworld 2, and like Homeworld better but both are great and pretty similar.
But play it. It can be REALLY hard but it is the most incredible tactical space game I have ever played. It is totally 3d so you can use x,y,z planes to control your fleet. And your fleet can get MASSIVE with hundreds of ships of all different types.
And you can't just build one type of ship and win. You need fighters (tons of different types) and carriers to support them. You need capital ships of different types... some to take on other capital ships, others to defend sgainst fast fighter squadrons. You need Corvette's to give a little umpf for fighter backup, You have support ships, mining ships, cloaking ships, probes, scouts, shield generating ships, etc.
Just a brilliant tactical game that really gets space combat RIGHT.
Anyway, the fleet combat in Battlestar Galactica really reminded me of that... only what we saw was on a bit smaller scale than some of my Homeworld battles. Actually, the premise of Battlestar Galactica is actually pretty similar to the game. I suspect Homeworld got a few ideas from it.
Tay... Homeworld can be really hard. You should have told me... we should play
