'Home Improvement' Neighbor Hindman Dies

Quote:
Earl Hindman, who was heard but little seen on the long-running ABC sitcom "Home Improvement," has died. He was 61.
Hindman died of lung cancer Monday (Dec. 29) in Stamford, Conn., the AP reports.

An Arizona native, Hindman studied acting at the University of Arizona and broke into show business in the early 1970s. He played one of the criminals in "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" and was a regular on the soap opera "Ryan's Hope," playing Lt. Bob Reid.

Somewhat ironically, his best-known role was one in which viewers almost never saw his face. He played Wilson W. Wilson Jr. throughout "Home Improvement's" eight-season run, offering sage advice to Tim Taylor (Tim Allen) and his family over the fence that separated their yards. Audiences finally got a glimpse of him when the cast took a bow in the series finale.
His other credits include "Silverado," "Taps" and the miniseries "War and Remembrance." More recently, he appeared in the independent film "Final" and did voiceover work for Home Depot in its TV ads.
