I used cheats in the last couple of levels in Halflife because it was getting so hard I wasnt enjoying the game anymore. I also used the strategy guide for Myst.
I'm a little bit of a completest, and the types of games I play usually take 60+ hours to finish, so I will consult a walkthrough every once and a while just to see if I've missed anything. I've never used one to spoil the entire game though. That would take the point out of playing.
Sure, in single player. I play a game and if I get stuck and get bored with it, its cheat code time. When you stop having fun with the game, cheat away.
I played Duke Nukem 3D for ages when I was 15. In that period of time, I started experimenting with hallucinogens. I tried acid for the first time at school, and when I got home, I did what I normally did after my school day was over: park my ass in front of the computer to Duke it out. Somehow I was capable of enabling God mode and the weapons cheat, but I ****ed up trying to pick the level of difficulty. I picked the one where the monsters come back to life. I couldn't comprehend why the monsters wouldn't stay dead and I kept shouting at the screen, "I thought I killed you bastards! WHAT THE ****?" Heh. Stupid cheat story.
Sometimes a game is just too hard for me to learn, so I pick up a cheat or a walkthrough just to learn the game, and then I start it over clean. Then again, I have a tendency to give up on things I'm not automatically good at because I get pissed off. Hurray for tetris64!
I have no patience for being stuck..first sign of trouble and i'm looking up the cheats. I remember playing some D&D game years and years ago and using the book to go through most of it..I didn't want puzzles, i wanted to kill stuff damnit! I am better than that now..i at least will try something before going to the cheat. Either way..i still have fun playing.
