A new promo video was released for the upcoming first-person shooter from Gearbox and Sega, Aliens: Colonial Marines. The video is just under five minutes and gives gamers some perspective on designing an Aliens game for fans of the sci-fi franchise...or at least fans of the fist two movies.

The new video preview comes courtesy of Machinima, who lays out the video which lays out the process that Gearbox went through to achieve the look and feel of the Aliens franchise and capture it for the upcoming FPS title.

You can check out a bit of the self-gloating and promotion of the highly anticipated title below.

To be honest, I can't say I'm entirely thrilled with what we've been shown of the game so far. My biggest gripe is that the Aliens are too materialized for cannon fodder. The thing that made the Aliens so scary in the movies was that you had no idea where they were coming from. Oftentimes they used the floors, ceilings and ducts in the structures to get around. So far, a lot of the Alien AI logic seems to revolve around scripted “choke-points” and cinematic areas, the same kind of map layout and formula used in another popular shooter franchise called Call of Duty.

Now given that the game isn't due out until February 12th of 2013, we have plenty of time to wait it out and see if Gearbox improves on the AI so that the Aliens are less like stereotypical terrorists who hop out of sewers and down from airducts and if they can behave a bit more like stalkers going in for the kill. I think one commentor summed it up best when asking “Will the Aliens sneak up from behind?” They seemed to like doing that in the movies, so I guess we'll find out sooner or later.
